Arms Race: Who is pitching tomorrow around the state

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

District action will be heavy tomorrow.  Here is a look at some of the names who will toe the rubber for their schools tomorrow.

+Brett Adcock, LHP, Bay City Western HS, 2013- Adcock will take on Midland in a high powered district game.  Adcock is committed to Michigan and most recently threw a no hitter striking out 13.

+Jacob MacDowell, RHP, MacDowell is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound pitcher who has received some attention from smaller schools.  He looks to keep down Dewitt tomorrow at noon.

+Dakota Mekkes, RHP, Jenison HS, 2013 Should Jenison survive Game 1 of Districts tomorrow, Jenison will most likely turn to Mekkes a Michigan State commit.  This could create a possible showdown between Hudsonville and Jenison.  Mekkes is currently 6-0 with a 1.83 ERA.

+Jacob Gividen, RHP, Portage Northern HS, 2014- We could see a cross-town rivalry for the District championship if both Portage Central and Portage Northern survive their first games.  Gividen beat Mattawan in a Pre-District Game striking out 14.  Cole Schaefer, a Coastal Carolina commit, could be the counter to Gividen for Portage Central.

+Kyle Schweiger, RHP, Stoney Creek HS, 2013- Schweiger comes into Saturday’s matchup with Romeo riding a hot hand.  His last start against Lake Orion he went seven innings with 12 strikeouts.  Stoney Creek plays Romeo at 10AM at Romeo HS.

+Grant Reuss, LHP, Cranbrook HS, 2014- Reuss has been dominant this spring and he will have his hands full against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.  Reuss currently has 61 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched.

+Lincoln Erickson, RHP, Pine River HS, 2013- Erickson will start at 10am against McBain at Pine River HS.  Erickson, who will be attending U of M next year for school, has had a good year going 3-2 with a 1.08 ERA, a .128 BA against, and 52 Ks in 26 innings.

+Alex VanDeVusse, RHP, Grand Rapids Christian HS, 2013- VanDeVusse will toe the rubber for Grand Rapids Christian in Game 1 against Grand Rapids Catholic Central on Saturday at 10 am.  If they win Game 1 don’t be surprised if Grand Rapids Christan throws Austin Batka (LHP,2014) in Game 2.  Grand Rapids Christian will attempt to defend their 2012 state title.

+Kyle Randick, RHP, Flushing HS, 2013- Randick will start things off for Flushing against Swartz Creek at 10AM.

+Nash Irwin, LHP, Mt. Morris HS, 2014- Fresh off of their victory in the Tom Cole Tournament, Mt Morris will once again turn to junior Nash Irwin.  Iriwn will get the start in the 11am game against Clio at Goodrich HS.

+Garrett Schilling, RHP, Bishop Foley HS, 2014- Schilling will put his 11-0 record on the line for Foley tomorrow. Foley will play the 12pm game against Lutheran North HS at Luthern North West HS.
