 ESSEXVILLE - Michigan has always been the dream school for Tommy Szczepanski. When the opportunity was presented to become a Wolverine, the decision was easy for the sophomore at Essexville Garber.
“It’s life changing for me,” Szczepanski said. “I’m going to my dream school to play baseball.” Interest in the 6-4 187-pound right-handed pitcher exploded after his performance at the Future Games. “Going there was a blessing,” Szczepanski admitted. “Two weeks before I was debating whether to go with football going on. But I talked to the coaches and they said it was a place I wanted to be. When I got on the mound there, you looked around and there were tons and tons of coaches. “I had a very good outing,” Szczepanski added. “It was a lot of fun. The best part was competing against the best players around.” Clemson, Louisville, Louisiana-Lafayette, Coastal Carolina, Michigan State, Xavier, South Carolina and Duke joined Michigan in making contact with the second-rated player in the 2022 class in the state. Camp visits to South Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Michigan State followed, including an offer to MSU. “The Future Games definitely got my name out there,” noted Szczepanski, who had another visit planned to Louisville before his commitment changed those plans. “Prior to the Future Games I’d only had a couple calls.” Talk with Michigan went on with pitching coach Chris Fetter after the PBR event. |
