Eastern Michigan Had A Lot Of Selling Points For Forry

LIVONIA - The chance to stay close to home and follow in his parents footsteps led Alex Forry to Eastern Michigan.

“It’s cool to know I’m the third from our family to go there,” noted Forry, who made the commitment this month to attend the same school as his mother and father. “It was really an easy decision with my parents having gone there and telling stories about the student-athletes there. That helped make the decision easier.”

The offer came on Nov. 8 following a campus visit to EMU.

“I sat and thought about it,” Forry reflected. “I looked at the coaching staff and they’ve all been to the majors so they know what it takes to get there, especially the pitching coach. If the major leagues is my goal, this is the best trio to help me do it.”

Previous visits to Illinois, Michigan State and Toledo did make the decision a bit more difficult.

“Toledo was definitely a good visit, their offer was hard to pass up,” the Livonia Franklin junior said. “It was a beautiful campus and what they give athletes is incredible.

“I went to Michigan State and saw the Michigan game and before that went to Illinois in October for a showcase. Campus life looked very good there.”

However, Eastern Michigan had a number of selling points that helped the 15th-ranked 2020 in the state decide.

“It’s close to home which was one of my targets,” Forry said. “I’ve always been under the theory if somebody wants you more than you want them you better look closer. They really gave me a feeling I’d be playing rather than a backup every other game.”

There was also the interest in the 6-3 215-pounder as a two-way player.
