Expanded Class of 2016 Rankings Feature New Names

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

With the Class of 2016 overall rankings being released last week and the commitment of Michael Mokma (Holland Christian HS) to Michigan State, the Class of 2016 is buzzing with activity.

Today we have released updated and expanded rankings for the Michigan Class of 2016.

Karl Kauffmann (Brother Rice HS) and Drew Blakely (Gull Lake HS) both attended Midwest Futures Games and both retain the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.  Both have received serious interest from Big Ten, ACC, and SEC schools, including Miami (FL), Vanderbilt, and North Carolina to name a few.

Making waves recently are newcomers Jack Weisenberger (Rockford HS)  and Tommy Henry (Portage Northern HS) .  Both add to the overall depth of what is shaping up to be a deep class altogether.  Weisenberger and Henry both had college recruiters buzzing with their performances at the Border Battle Games. Weisenberger was 84-85 mph on the mound and 88 mph from the outfield.  Henry isn't a hard thrower yet (81-83 mph) but shows a high ceiling from the left side.

Keegan Kenny (Traverse City West HS) and Connor Sampson (Belleville HS)  help round out the top ten, checking in at No. 9 and No. 10 respectively.  Both remain largely unknown to the masses, but expect both players to get a significant amount of attention over the next year.
