Caleb Scoles, RHP, Gull Lake HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Toledo?

Scoles:  I really liked the coaches. Coach Mee and Bradford spent quality time with my family and I. I really liked the feel of Toledo's campus. Their athletic facilities are awesome. The other thing that was key in my decision is their business school. I plan on being a sales professional and UT actually has a sales degree. I went to Toledo's camp and was extremely impressed with Coach Bradford's approach to pitching. I know he can make me better and hopefully take me to the next level. You know when something feels right. Toledo just felt right for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Scoles:  Oakland, WMU, EMU.  I have to say that I have a massive amount of respect for all the coaches at these schools. They were all awesome which made my decision tough. They all had incredible things about them. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make in my life.

PBR: Where did the Coach Mee first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Scoles: I believe they saw me at The Top Prospect Games, a tournament in Ohio, and the Midwest Futures Games. I had several phone conversations with Coach Mee and Coach Bradford. My family and I also visited the campus a couple times. Coach Mee and Bradford spent the whole day with us on our first visit. It meant a great deal to my family and I.

What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Scoles: The coaches would like me to play a role immediately as a potential weekend starter. I'm going to do everything in my power to hopefully live up to their expectations.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Rocket baseball?

Scoles: I love being aggressive and throwing strikes. I love to compete. I've been in a lot of pressure situations in the past. I thrive on those situations. I think these things combined will help me be a "gamer" for ROCKET baseball.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Scoles:  I played for two teams this past summer. I played for Midwest Athletics and Prime Time. My most memorable experience was playing in East Cobb Georgia.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your junior season?

Scoles: I want to continue improving my performance on the mound. Gull Lake wants to bring home a STATE TITLE this year. We were so close last year we could taste it. I want to help my team finish the job.

PBR: What were your stats for last spring?

Scoles:  7-0 with a 1.35 ERA

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced?

Scoles:  Jake Bivens from Lakeview High School, now a player at U of M.
