Michigan Insider: Updated Class of 2016 Player Rankings (February)

As the winter showcase season comes to a close and the spring high school baseball season moves closer, we at PBR Michigan would like to take a look at the class of 2016 Player Rankings.

As the winter season progressed, our staff evaluated talent all across the state of Michigan. We have had the pleasure of seeing a number of solid players this past fall and winter. Prospects are popping up left and right, making velocity jumps, improving 60-yard dash times and showing more power with the bat.

With that being said, we will look into “What’s New At The Top”, some “Rising Prospects” and take a look look at some of the top uncommitted prospects.

What's New At The Top

With injuries and other performances, there was some shuffling at the top. Jack Weisenburger (Rockford HS, pictured right) and Sam Benschoter (Tecumseh HS) saw movement around the top of the list.

Weisenburger, an athletic 6-foot-3, 210-pound two-way prospect, a Michigan commit joined the top five at No. 5 overall after sitting 88-89 mph with his fastball at the Super 60 with good feel and arm speed on his off speed offerings.

Benschother, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect, a Michigan State commit moves up to number 10 as he continues to impress on the mound with fastball that gets up to 89 mph, a curveball with good depth and a quick arm action

The Risers

While Weisenburger and Benschoter have seen their stock rise, two prospects in Luke Sleeper (Haslett HS, pictured right) and Kevin Large (Henry Ford II HS) saw big jumps with their rankings.

Sleeper, a projectable left-handed prospect who stands 6-foot-4, 180-pounds, is a Stanford commit and has seen his ranking rise to 13. Sleeper's velocity continues to rise while also featuring a good feel for his offspeed. With a smooth and quick arm, Sleeper should continue to see more velocity jumps as the season goes through the spring into the summer.

Large, a 5-foot-8, 176-pound prospect, is a Saginaw Valley State commit who jumped in the rankings from 54 to 41. Large shows the ability to hit with a short swing while also sitting 85-86 mph on his sinking fastball with loose arm action.

Top Uncommitted Prospects By Position

There are still many talented prospects in the state of Michigan who remain uncommitted. These seniors, along with many others, will help collegiate programs in their future. Below we break down into categories by position and look at who remains uncommitted at those positions.

+ Top Right-Handed Arms: Jacob Scheese (pictured right), Jake Mavis

+ Top Left-Handed Arms: Thomas Brumfield, Bo Lineberger

+ Top Two-Way Prospects: Jalen Evans, Cam Stella

+ Top Catching Prospects: Corey Foster, Zak Zabonick

+ Top Corner Infield Prospects: Gunner Rainey, Kevin Smith, Jr.

+ Top Middle Infield Prospects: Gavin Homer, Mitchell Dundore

+ Top Outfield Prospects: Luke LaLumia, Danny Blade, Mason Vaughan
