Jimmy Love RHP / Birmingham Seaholm, MI / 2021

BIRMINGHAM - Jimmy Love has made big jumps in a number of ways over the past year.

The Birmingham Seaholm junior has soared when it comes to size, velocity and state ratings. It has given Love a different outlook.

“Two years ago I was about 80 percent sure I wanted to play college baseball,” Love admitted. “Now that I’ve improved a lot, I’m 100 percent sure.”

An unofficial visit to Wayne State in January is just the tip of the iceberg for the fifth-ranked uncommitted 2021 right-handed pitcher in Michigan.

“The recruiting process has changed a lot over the past month,” Love said in reference to COVID-19 shutting things down. “Coaches can’t come see me, so I’ve had to rely on sending emails and videos to schools I’m interested in and then hopefully when we get back running after all of this they can see me play.”

For starters, those coming out will find a bigger version of Love.
“A year ago I was 5-9, 155 and now I’m 6-1, 175,” pointed out Love. “More size is huge. I’ve always been skinny, but now that I’m bigger when I’m throwing the ball it comes out a lot quicker.”

Improved velocity has followed.

“I was sitting 77-78 a year ago, but the combination of lifting and eating has helped that go up,” Love related. “I’m bigger and stronger and worked in the offseason with Justin Robinson with SOA Pitching and that’s helped me gain 10 miles an hour.”

It has Aaron Wilson, PBR Michigan Director of Scouting, taking notice.

“He has shown a tremendous jump since we last saw him in the summer,” Wilson noted. “He went from a guy that topped at 80 mph to a guy that's touching 88 mph. That displays his ability to improve and should display to colleges he has a work ethic.”
