PBR Michigan Spotlight Game: Southgate Anderson vs Allen Park

The weather was 66 degrees and partly sunny as we journeyed downriver to see a contest between conference foes. Allen Park sent 2018 Jake Erickson to the mound while Southgate Anderson pitched 2016 Joe Leeming.

This game was a battle of pitching dominance, as neither pitcher allowed a run through 7 innings of work.

Both teams stranded numerous runners in scoring position due to the pitching excellence of Erickson and Leeming.

Erickson threw 5 innings, striking out 7 hitters and demonstrating cat like reflexes on the mound, fielding his position well.

There was no greater evidence of how well Erickson threw as in the top of the 2nd inning when he struck out the side on 12 pitches. Erickson left the game at the end of the 5th inning with a 0-0 tie ball game.

Leeming was just as or more impressive.

The senior leader threw an 8-inning complete game with 4 strikeout.

Each time the Jaguar defense seemed to be closing in on run Leeming made a tremendous pitch yielding an out. The entire day he mixed pitches well and kept Allen Park off balance.

The only runs of the game were scored in the top of the 8th inning.

2016 unsigned senior led-off the inning earning a free pass, followed by Noah Geilow's double to left field, placing runners on 2nd and 3rd. Allen Park intentionally walked Alex Leija to load the bases.

2018 Alonzo Chavez broke the tie with an RBI line drive through the 4-3 hole that barely got passed the diving 2016 Lorenz Frazier. Shayne Shumake perfectly executed a suicide squeeze scoring Geilow and making it to first base safely.

The final run was scored as Brian Guerrero elevated a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Chavez. Anderson went on to win 3-0.
