Porter Fell In Love With Clemson

ORCHARD LAKE - A family place in Fort Myers always had Brock Porter intrigued with the notion of playing baseball in the south.

“We’d go to Florida on Christmas break every year,” Porter reflected. “We mostly vacationed around baseball.”

The idea of being part of a college program where the weather is more baseball-friendly over the course of a year is now a reality for the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s sophomore after a recent commitment to Clemson.

“I always wondered what it would be like to play baseball in the south,” Porter said in reference to the family trips to Florida. “I always imagined what it would be like and now it’s going to happen.”

The third-rated 2022 in Michigan first connected with the Atlantic Coast Conference school last summer while playing in a tournament in Georgia.

“On Christmas break last year we stopped and saw some colleges, including Clemson,” the 6-2 165-pound right-handed pitcher said. “I absolutely loved it. The first time I saw it, I knew it was my dream school. The whole school was beautiful and the other sports were right by the baseball facility.”

While no official visits were taken, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Michigan and Michigan State were other schools that Porter was considering in this early stage of recruitment.

“I don’t like the cold weather,” Porter pointed out. “I love playing down south, I love every tournament I’ve played down there. The talent there is amazing and I love playing against the best competition I can play against.”

The number-one ranked sophomore pitcher in the state just finished participating in a tourney in Georgia with his summer team and will complete the offseason with a tournament in Florida.
