Q&A with Northwood commit: Alex Lewandowski

Alex Lewandowski recently came to the Unsigned Senior Showcase on October 27th and left his mark on the coaches watching.  Lewandowski committed to Northwood University less than three weeks after attending the showcase.  We caught up with the newest Timberwolf to hear more about his decision.

PBR: Congrats on committing to Northwood. Why did you make this choice?
Lewandowski: I felt that this was the best choice because it suited me both academically and athletically.

PBR: Did Northwood see you prior to the Unsigned Senior Showcase?
Lewandowski:  No, Northwood had not seen me prior to the Unsigned Senior Showcase.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Lewandowski:  Wayne State, West Liberty, St Josephs, Lincoln Trail, and a couple division 3 schools.

PBR: Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Lewandowski:  No, not at all, but my family has a cottage about 45 minutes northwest of Midland. And we've made that drive through Midland about 1000+ times through the years, so the area is very familiar to me.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Lewandowski:  The PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase started it all. One of the coaches really liked what he saw, and wanted me to visit. I developed a strong relationship with the coaching staff on my visit to Northwood. Everything fell into place when I was up there on my visit. I felt like they knew what they were talking about, and it was easy to tell that they have real high hopes for me in the future.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Lewandowski:  The coaches at Northwood expect me to compete for a starting spot in the pitching rotation.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?

Lewandowski: My biggest strength as a player is my attitude. I feel that my attitude can disable any negativity on the team.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Lewandowski:  I play for the Oakland Bulldogs. Last summer I played for the Detroit Metro Stars. My most memorable experience this past summer was when we beat Ostinger's baseball down in Georgia off of a walk off bunt. The game had everyone on the edge of their seats for all 7 innings.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Lewandowski:  My individual goals are to continue to climb in velocity. This senior season I intend to lead my team to the state championship and play a significant role as one of leaders on my high school team.

PBR: What are you currently doing to get better?
Lewandowski:  Training with the players and coaches from my travel team and perfecting my mechanics. These next six months will be important on how I perform in the future.

PBR: Who were the most influential people in your baseball career to this point?
Lewandowski:  My parents. The only two people that are always there for me. They have influenced me day in and day out to not give up.
