With his big, 6-foot-4, 235-pound frame, Ruppenthal is an attractive pitching prospect, but has remained a bit of a mystery recently. He stood out at the 2012 Tournament of Stars—as a junior—by sitting 88-90 mph with his fastball. He threw a combined no-hitter the following spring and has a good three-pitch mix. However, he was missing from some of the main stops on the showcase circuit last summer. He was slated to start a game early at the World Wood Bat Championship in Jupiter, FL, but ended up not being in attendance. His return to the mound in front of dozens of scouts will be a point of interest.
