Unsigned Senior Games: Blue Team Analysis

By PBR Staff

The final team from Unsigned Senior Games that we need to breakdown is the Blue Team.  This team had plenty of under-the-radar talent and solid players who will ultimately land at the next level.

Joel Perry, LHP, Holly HS, 2014
Perry may not have thrown the hardest of the pitchers who attended but he certainly carved up hitters with his stuff.  Perry is a smaller compact lefty who struck out six of ten hitters faced.  His breaking ball was the arguably the best one at the Unsigned Senior Games.  His 12-6 curveball has good shape and bite. It ranged between 68-69 mph.

Michael Miron, C/RHP, Orchard Lake St Mary’s, 2014

Miron is a smaller compact C/RHP  who stands at 5-foot-8, 175-pound.  Short arm action behind the plate.  Threw out a runner in game action with a throw right on the bag.  Offesively shows some pop at the plate and got to extension well.  Pull type of hitter with upright stance.  Short path.  On the mound he spun the ball well.  Again short arm action.  Not a hard thrower 73-75 mph on this day but did throw strikes.

Mark LeVon, C/3B, Rochester Adams HS, 2014

LeVon continues to improve.  This late bloomer showed marked improvement in almost every area.  60 time improved to 7.22. Pop times down to 2.08 at his best.  Quick release behind the plate.  Open stance at the plate.  Lots of linedrives in his BP session. Solid pickup.

Joe Abeska, Detroit Catholic Central HS, 2014

Abeska is a 5-foot-10 shortstop who plays at Catholic Central.  Solid actions in the middle infield.  7.4 runner in the 60.  Arm strength was a touch behind at this point (75mph).  Projects more as a secondbaseman at the next level.  Level path at the plate.  Open stance.  Had lots of linedrives in BP round.  Smaller school kind of player.

Jake Wahmhoff, RHP, Holland HS, 2014

Good looking righty with easy effortless arm action.  Coming off of ACL tear in the winter. Just starting to get back into it.  82-84 mph on this day.  Good away from armside with good down angle.  Lots of strikes. Loose.

Adam Underwood, SS, Bellaire HS, 2014

Solid middle infielder.  Can make all of the plays.  Sat back on the ball in the showcase portion but played through the ball better in game scenario.  Turned a nice double play.  Longer arm action 74mph across the diamond.  Heavy front side hitter.  Line drives. Starts from closed stance.  Middle approach.

Casey Shinabarger, SS, Portage Central HS, 2014

Shinabarger projects to be a second baseman at the next level.  Sprays the ballaround the yard.  Solid player overall. Very accurate throws.  Definite follow.  Small school kind of player.

Tate Rudlaff, OF, Niles HS, 2014

Solid outfielder with chance to put on more weight and grow. Only 6-foot, 160-pounds.  Good runner (7.13).  Soft hands in the OF and the ability to play through.  Showed good balance at the plate with some pop in the bat.  Liked him best as a position player eventhough he also pitched.  Kept the ball down well on the mound.  Has some effort in the delivery. Fastball ranged between 73-76mph.

Devin Rose, OF, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 2014

One of the best outfielders left in the state of Michigan.  6.9 Runner.  Pull power and gap power to the opposite field.  At Unsigned Senior Games he was 87mph from the outfield.  And had an inside the park homerun as well as another two hits.  From first to third he is one of the best runners in his class.

Bayley Kingery, C, Holland HS, 2014

Kingery was a pleasant surprise. Solid Catcher with catch and throw abilities.  Smaller frame at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds.  In game action smoked a ground rule double to right field.  Pull type of hitter.  Needs to improve overall consistency but has good toolset to work from.

Ryan Wysocki, OF/RHP, Forest Hills Northern HS, 2014

Wysocki has been a consistent performer for us.  Not sure whether he is better on the mound or in the field. Definite two-way potential for the right school. On the mound shows quick arm and fastball ranges between 82-84mph.  Has arm strength from OF.  Quick twitch actions and some buggy whip in his swing at the plate. Definite follow.

Evan Wenzel, SS/MIF, Hackett Catholic Central HS, 2014

Wenzel showed extremely well.  We liked his actions a lot in the field  Accuate throws with short arm action. 81mph across the diamond.  Maybe a thirdbaseman at the next level.  Oppo approach at the plate.  Worked inside out quite a bit.  Picked up a knock in game  action. Would like to see him again.  Solid player.

Nick Swanson, 1B/3B, Notre Dame Prep HS, 2014

Big strong bodied corner player. Best suited for first base long term but can certainly play third some as well.  Took good swings at the plate. Drove the ball and had good extrension in his swing. Uses his hands well and stay simple.  Seems to  have a good motor and drive.

Brennan Williams, 1B, Walled Lake Northern HS, 2014

One of the better left-handed power bats left in the class of 2014.  Very good athlete. 6-foot-4 frame can add 20-25 more pounds.  6.93 runner.  Because of his speed he may see some interest in the outfield as well.  Generates good pop with his bat but there is more in there.  Occasionally gets cut off at the plate.  In the field moves well and arm is 79mph across the diamond.

Cameron Urquhart, OF/RHP, U of D Jesuit HS, 2014

Very intriguing player. Good frame with plenty of projectability. 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. Arm worked well on the mound.  80-83mph with his fastball but we expect plenty more down the road.  Secondary stuff needs to improve consistency.  In the outfield showed above average arm strength at 85mph.  Ball carried well.  Ran 7.4 in the 60;.  At the plate showed inside out approach. Wraps bat but has hand speed.  Definite follow.

Joseph Roman, 1B/RHP, Whitmore Lake HS, 2014

Roman is a big bodied 1B with a smooth swing. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound 1B/RHP, runs well for his size (7.5).  Quiet approach at the plate with some pop to the gaps. On the mound threw strikes.  Fastball ranged between 75-77mph.  Breaking ball shows 12-6 action to it.
