Updated Class of 2023 Player Rankings (March)
The state of Michigan has become a hotbed of talent throughout the country placing numerous players at various levels into colleges as well as multiple draft picks. As we close out the summer and move into fall baseball as well as other fall sports we had the opportunity to see hundreds of prospects throughout the spring/summer and have updated our class rankings.Many names came off the board to some of the top programs around the nation, many new names came to the forefront of the recruiting scene, and many prospects improved their game.
Below we will take a look at "What's New at the Top", “The Risers”, "The Newcomers", "The Sleepers" and some of the top uncommitted prospects by position.

What’s New At The Top
Noah Miller C / 1B / Monroe, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 1
Report: Michigan recruit Noah Miller moves into the top 10 slotting in at number 9. Noah has a big time arm behind the dish that has helped to establish himself as one of the state’s top defensive catchers and is coming off a strong showing at this winter’s ProCase event. Two time Future Games participant with a strong track record having been ranked near the top of the rankings since he entered high school showing consistent improvement at the plate which has him poised for a big senior season. |
The Risers
Garrett Brewer LHP / OF / Berrien Springs, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 30 / POS: 4
Report: One of the top LHP’s in the 2023 class who is headed to East Lansing this fall. A live loose arm that works both sides of the plate. Upper 80s fastball with a above average SL. Features an athletic frame that is sure to get stronger as he matures. |
Jackson Muir RHP / 3B / Saline, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 43 / POS: 14
Report: Michigan recruit Jackson Muir continues to raise his stock and moves into the top 50 in the latest rankings. 6 foot 1 RHP showed off a velocity jump in 2022 getting the FB into the upper 80’s and has been into the low 90’s during the offseason. Intriguing follow this spring as he looks to continue his upward trajectory anchoring the staff for Saline. *Video from 2021 |
Josh Agar LHP / 1B / Zeeland West, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 87 / POS: 11
Report: Josh recently committed to Eastern FL State College (D1 Juco). The LHP is one we have seen on multiple occasions in spring and summer competition. A funky, deceptive delivery and arm swing can throw off hitters timing. A Mid 80s fastball that as some late run to righties. |
Drew Dawson OF / RHP / Plymouth, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 91 / POS: 9
Report: A senior that had a strong spring and summer that led to a commitment with Coach Kelley and Wayne State. Drew rose in the rankings after strong showings. A physical lefty who had middle of the order potential and work like mentality at the plate. Above average athleticism in the field. |
Amare Curran OF / Lamphere, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 92 / POS: 10
Report: Amare had a strong showing at our annual Pro Case event on March 4th in Milford. Ran another sub 7 60 yard dash and showed why he was deserving to be there defensively and offensively. A South Oakland A’s product that has a lanky wiry body that is still growing into his body. |
Notable Newcomers
Matt Pomaville RHP / OF / Warren Woods Tower , MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 62 / POS: 24
Report: After seeing Matt at the USA Prime Scout Day, he received an invite to ProCase on March 4th. A tall 6-6 frame with a fastball that jumps out of the hand. The fastball ranges 88-90 with late run. Pomaville gets good extension down the slope. |
Don’t Sleep On These Arms
Luke Micunek RHP / OF / Brighton, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 77 / POS: 31
Report: 6 foot 4 RHP who will be an arm to follow for Brighton this spring with a projectable frame and a FB in the upper 80’s on the mound. Recent Jackson College signee is on the younger side of the class has the makings of a high upside arm as he continues to develop and add strength. |
Jordan Arseneau RHP / 3B / Grosse Pointe North, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 85 / POS: 36
Report: Uncommitted RHP who will help anchor the staff for Grosse Pointe North serving as half of their 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation. Pounds the zone on the mound featuring a mid to upper 80’s fastball and good feel for offspeed. One of the top uncommitted arms in the 2023 class was lights out last spring going 8-0 with a 0.14 ERA for the Division 1 runner ups. *Video from 2021 |
Breakout Candidates This Spring
Cole Gebben RHP / OF / Vicksburg, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 53 / POS: 19
Report: Gebben will man the Bulldog pitching staff this spring for Coach Brian Deal. Cole’s stock had continually grown from Junior year to Senior campaign as his fastball sits 88-90, topping 91. Don’t be fooled by the frame, but packs a lot of punch off the mound with a plus slider. |
Zachary Vriesenga RHP / 1B / East Grand Rapids, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 45 / POS: 15
Report: A late bloomer out of East Grand Rapids HS. Tall lanky frame that will sit 85-87, touching 89 at times. The son of former Western Michigan Bronco draftee Matt Vrisenga is looking to have a senior season on Michigan’s west side of the state and continue to make a name for himself. |
Hayden Winger SS / C / Jenison, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 96 / POS: 14
Report: Coming off an injury from his Junior season, Hayden committed to Kellogg C.C. in the fall. An athletic player who has shown good offensive production. Prior to injury, featured an upper 80s fastball in his athletic frame. One to keep tabs on this from Jenison HS. *Video from 2021 |
College Coaches Need to Circle Back To
Nick Stempnik RHP / OF / Warren Mott, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 162 / POS: 57
Report: Nick came out to the Detroit Metro Stars scout day over the winter and is starting to make a name for himself. A stockier build with a quick arm action that packs a above average slider with late vertical break. Keep an eye out for the uncommitted senior as the spring season gets underway. |
Steven Wood OF / OF / Detroit Catholic Central, MI / 2023Rankings StateRank: 133 / POS: 19
Report: A dual sport athlete with a lot of athleticism in the body who missed out on a lot of baseball due to injury in his junior season. An athletic outfielder that will be looking for redemption this spring in the Catholic league. Above average speed on the bases that will make it a challenge on the running game against opposing pitchers. |
