Drew Brown RHP / 3B / West Catholic, MI / 2026

ALLENDALE - The opportunity to be a two-way player is a must in the recruiting process of Drew Brown.

“It will definitely be a challenge to balance pitching and hitting, but I don’t want to close any door too soon,” explained Brown. “I’ll probably go two-way even if a really good (PO) offer comes. I want to be able to two-way.”

A strong performance in the Fall Championships in Detroit in which the 6-4 200-pounder hit three home runs helped bring interest on the hit side of things.

“I was talking with some mid-majors and Big 10 schools reached out,” the West Catholic High School junior reflected. “It wasn’t real loud on Aug. 1, but I started to get a lot more notice after that.

“Most usually reach out for pitching, but as we talk, and they do research, I mention two-way. That’s one of the first things I say, I want to be a two-way. They usually respect that.”

The 16th-rated 2026 right-handed pitcher in Michigan admits there was a lot of uncertainty when it came to his recruitment.

“I didn’t know what to expect, I wasn’t familiar with it,” Brown related. “What I thought it would be is a lot of coaches reaching out, but it’s not as many as you’d think. Going to a couple of showcases in the winter helped out and Prep Baseball posting along with Twitter posting helped out as well.”

Still, the 39th-ranked junior in the state believes his abilities are being undervalued.

“I don’t think I’m getting the recognition I should, but that’s part of the process,” the 17-year-old reasoned. “Hopefully, I’ll do well at the Prep Baseball ProCase and maybe get some bigger looks. Going to the Prep Baseball Nationals Championships and all those tournaments, hopefully, that will be beneficial.”

Adam Goodwin, Prep Baseball Michigan Director of Scouting, sees Brown having the potential to make a strong impact at the next level.

“Drew features a present frame and body that college recruiters should find really intriguing standing at 6-4 already.” Goodwin explained. “Drew is starting to scratch what he is really capable of and that will continue into the spring. He had a good showing at Prep Baseball tournaments and at our Top Prospect Games. Drew is a name that programs should make an appointment to see early in 2025.”

Brown is of the belief his improvement in the weight room will show.

“I was 180 pounds last season and I’m up to 200,” Brown pointed out. “A year ago I was throwing 81, six months ago I was 86-88 and now I’m 88-90. I’m also more of a power hitter now.”

A corner infielder when not on the mound, Brown understands what he desires in a college.

“I want to get on the field quickly,” Brown explained. “I want to start freshman year and be able to two-way at a school.

“I’m looking to go Division I, I'd like to be in the Power 4, but I know there are some really good mid-majors out there,” Brown added. “I’d also like a blend between an older and newer coaching staff. A staff that’s young and relatable, but also older with much knowledge.”

An opportunity is all that Brown is looking to find.

“If a big-time school says they have one spot open I’d tell them I’m a dual-threat player that hits the ball hard, and is a really good pitcher that throws hard with good location,” Brown said.

A 3.95 student planning to major in the business field, Brown is excited about weighing out all the options that are to come.

“I’m taking it slow and just seeing how it all plays out,” Brown concluded. “I hope interest jumps up after the ProCase. I think it’s going to get better after that with more reaching out. Hopefully, I’ll be able to commit in either the spring or summer, probably before August.”
