2023 OUTLOOK:
"We have had 2 years when we have had success with senior heavy teams and wondered how we would fare the following year. The following year we have always "over achieved", according to how you would think a team with not a lot of experience would do. SLP always has the blue collar approach to our program, just put your head down and work and we expect to be one of the top 10 teams in the state. The beginning of the season always seems a little rough because we usually have 70% of the team coming from hockey and basketball, but then we usually get rolling mid year and hit our stride before playoffs. The younger guys saw what it takes to have success last year, and we have one of the best leaders our program has ever had in Stefano Giovannelli. Fano can change the game on the mound, at the plate and in CF. Behind him we return 2 other starting pitchers in Vela and Montanez. Helfman is one of the best power hitters in our conference, and then we bring in Silva, a Venezuelan catcher who saw his teammates get signed by pro teams. When he was not signed, he decided he wanted to come to America to have the chance to play college baseball. Sullivan could be an elite player if he puts it together this year. He has the build and tangibles to be a D1 baseball player and is only a Junior. We are also excited about 3 of our sophomores that will push for starting spots. Then our freshman class shows the best promise out of any class we have seen since Derek Keller's 2011 class. We may even have 2 freshman that can throw varsity innings for us this year. No matter what the record looks like during the year we will be a tough team in playoffs, as we look to get to the section finals for the 5th time in the last 7 years."
Brian Kelly, St. Louis Park Head Coach
