Prep Baseball Report

2025 Minnesota High School, Team Previews: Volume III

Andy Judkins
State Director, Prep Baseball Minnesota

Prep Baseball Minnesota strives to be the most comprehensive source of player information across the state. Prep Baseball is the number one resource for high school baseball in each state that we cover through various events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work together, creating each state's most potent high school baseball promotion source. While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

As we prepare for the upcoming 2025 high school season, we will be taking a preseason glimpse at programs from around the state.

Coach's Comment:
"Our program features a good balance of experienced senior leadership and talented juniors and underclassmen seeking Varsity experience. While pitching will be our main strength again, we are anticipating more production from our offense and defense in 2025."

Impact Players:

Coach's Comment:
"Our expectations for the year are to compete every night on the field and be playing our best baseball by the time playoffs come around. This will be the most experienced team we've had in the four years I've been coaching. We'll have strong leadership by a core group of Seniors who have been varsity starters for 2+ years already coming into the season. The strength of our team on the field will be our pitching with 4 reliable starting pitchers as well as other bullpen pieces to round it off. The key to a successful season will be playing good defense behind our pitching and getting runs on the board to ultimately take pressure off our pitchers."

EDEN VALLEY WATKINS EAGLES

Head Coach: Dan Berg (8 seasons)

Class: 2A
Conference: Central Minnesota
2024 Record: 15-6, Class 3A State Qualifier
X: None

Impact Players:

  • Max Geislinger
  • Coltant Harff
  • Riley Geislinger

Key Underclass Players:

  • Bryce Neiman, 2028

Coach's Comment:
"We have graduated a lot of talent the last couple of years but kids will need to step up if we want to continue our winning ways. We have to replace or top 3 players and many role guys from last year. The junior coming up have won a lot of games but need to see if they can take the next step and win at the varsity level. We are looking forward to the challenge the lays ahead this spring and anticipate many position battles. Going to be fun to see how these kids have grown over the past year."

Class: 3A
Conference: Hiawatha Valley
2024 Record: 22-3
X: @stewiebaseball

Impact Players:

Coach's Comment:
"We are looking to build on last year. We will have to learn to play for one another, work hard, and have a great attitude. If we do those three things we will be a good position at the end of the year."

ROCKFORD ROCKETS

Head Coach: Cody Hallahan (2 seasons, 43-10)

Class: 2A

Key Underclass Players:

Coach's Comment:
"We expect to defend our state, section, and conference titles successfully this season and make another great run. We lost a few key pieces from last year's championship team, but return three high quality arms that will be the anchor of our pitching staff and strength of our team. The key to a successful season will be getting the underclassmen up to speed to compliment our upperclassmen which will be the core of our lineup."

Key Underclass Players:

Coach's Comment:
"We return most of our core from last years state tournament team and fully expect to compete for a conference championship as well as a run at the section championship. We need to fill some pitching gaps, but have the experience to do so along with talented younger players that will need to step up. Pitching and defense will again be our strength."

LE SUEUR-HENDERSON GIANTS

Head Coach: Zac Weber (1 season, 20-7)

Class: 2A
Conference: South Central
2024 Record: 20-7, Class 2A State 4th Place
X: None

Impact Players:

Key Underclass Players:

Coach's Comment:
"Although we lost 9 seniors, 2 of which were dominant pitchers from last season, I am confident that if our guys put in the work this offseason, we can be a very competitive team once again. We have players returning that played in the state tournament so they know what it takes to play at that level but also have some young players who will be fun to watch as well."

MANKATO EAST COUGARS

Head Coach: Micah Degner (7 seasons, 81-40)

Class: 3A
Conference: Big 9
2024 Record: 22-6, Class 3A State Qualifier
X: @mankatoeastbase

Impact Players:

Key Underclass Players:

Coach's Comment:
"We only lost 2 seniors and have a big, talented senior class this year, with 8 guys hoping to play college baseball next year and a few very talented younger guys who will contribute. We'll return all our starters and pitching staff, except Nicholas Werk. We'll have a deep pitching staff, with 4 returning guys over 15 IP who had under 2 ERAs and 2-3 more who have made some big jumps this off-season and will contribute. Offensive production was an issue at times last year, but with everyone a year older, I think we'll be improved there. The section will be tough, with Marshall and West both having a lot of talent."
