2025 Prep Baseball Minnesota's Player Of The Year Watchlist

Andy Judkins
State Director, Prep Baseball Minnesota

Prep Baseball Minnesota is committed to being the most comprehensive source of player information in the state. As the leading resource for high school baseball in every state we cover, we provide in-depth coverage through events, an on-the-ground scouting staff, daily content, and multimedia platforms. Our integrated approach makes us the most effective platform for high school baseball promotion at the state level.

Unlike organizations with a broad national focus, we prioritize in-depth, local coverage to be the authoritative voice for high school baseball in Minnesota.

As we gear up for the 2025 season, we will highlight five top candidates for Prep Baseball Minnesota’s Player of the Year.

Ethan Felling LHP / OF / MAHTOMEDI SENIOR HIGH, MN / 2025

One of the state’s most well-known names, Felling has been a key part of Mahtomedi’s success, leading the Zephyrs to back-to-back state tournament appearances. A true two-way threat, he hit .373 last season with 31 hits, 9 doubles, a triple, and a home run while driving in 26 runs. On the mound, he was just as dominant, going 5-1 with a 0.814 ERA over 43 innings, allowing only 22 hits and striking out 63. This season, the future Gopher looks to lead Mahtomedi back to state—this time with a championship in sight.

Noah Filer RHP / WAYZATA HIGH, MN / 2025

Filer will anchor the Wayzata pitching staff as their ace this season. The Purdue commit was dominant last year, posting a perfect 7-0 record over 47 innings while allowing just 26 hits and 13 walks. He struck out 67 and maintained an impressive 0.887 ERA, helping his team secure a third-place finish at state. The Trojans will lean heavily on Filer’s right arm, and the future Boilermaker will look to replicate—or surpass—his stellar performance from last season.

William Haas LHP / OF / Rockford , MN / 2025

Arguably the state’s top prospect and a potential MLB Draft pick this July, Haas looks to lead Rockford back to a state title. The left-hander is coming off a dominant season, going 10-1 with 84.2 innings pitched, 164 strikeouts, and a minuscule 0.909 ERA. His impact wasn’t limited to the mound—Haas also hit .397 with 29 hits, including 8 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 home runs, while driving in 24 runs. After one of the most impressive junior seasons in state history, the two-way standout is set for another big year, with hopes of securing a championship.

John Henry Kohorst LHP / OF / Cretin-Derham Hall, MN / 2025

The future Hawkeye started last season strong before an injury sidelined him. In just 9.2 innings, Kohorst struck out 13 and allowed only one earned run. As a sophomore, he showed promise at the plate as well, hitting .346 with 18 hits, 2 doubles, and a home run. On the mound that year, he logged 18 innings, going 1-1 with a 3.11 ERA. Now healthy, "JHK" is poised to lead the Raiders both on the mound and offensively as they set their sights on a big 2025 campaign.

Owen Marsolek LHP / OF / Duluth Marshall, MN / 2025

A talented two-way player, Marsolek returns as a key leader for Duluth Marshall. The future Hilltopper (the one in Western Kentucky) was instrumental in last season’s 20-4 finish, excelling both on the mound and at the plate. As a pitcher, he went 6-1 over 44 innings, striking out 79 with a 0.79 ERA, while opponents hit just .146 against him. Offensively, he posted a .453 average with 24 hits—nearly half for extra bases—while driving in 18 runs and swiping 13 bases. Duluth Marshall will once again rely on Marsolek’s left arm and bat as they chase a state title.
