Area Code Games: Day 5 Notebook

LONG BEACH, CA—There was a lot of baseball to take in Saturday at the 2015 Area Code Games as the schedule had four nine-inning games. With most teams recycling arms that pitched early in the event, I spent a majority of my time up the lines to really focus on hitters since it would be my last look for some. I’ll likely split my Sunday between two sites with the underclass portion kicking off at Cerritos College. RHP Tyler Benninghoff (Rockhurst HS, MO) is supposed to start for the White Sox (Midwest) against the Brewers (Southern California) so I’ll be sure to be back at Blair Field for that one. The underclass White Sox and Rangers (Texas) will cap the day there afterward.

Now, here are some highlights from Saturday’s action…

+ A standout at the PBR ProCase in June, RHP Nick Hanson (Prior Lake HS, MN) started for the White Sox in the day’s final game. Facing the Athletics (Northern California), he allowed one run on three hits and a walk in three innings. Hanson has a short arm action and three all fastballs in his first inning, sitting 88-90, touching 91. He broke out the curveball in the second innings, a 74-mph pitch with good shape and depth.
