By Josh Threlkeld
Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

PBR Minnesota seeks to offer the most comprehensive coverage of prep baseball in the state of Minnesota. Our goal is to continue bringing recognition to those who play this game within the state and to showcase the deep talent pool that Minnesota is developing.

Beyond the physical talent, Charlie has always seemed to conduct himself as a very mature ball player both on and off the field. He and a host of talented ball players will fuel an Edina squad looking to break into the state tournament and make a legit run for it. Congrats to Charlie and best of luck this year and beyond!

PBR: Why did you choose Southern Mississippi?
FISCHER: I chose Southern Miss because it had everything I wanted. They compete at a high level every year, the coaching staff and baseball facilities are phenomenal, and I can put myself in a position to make an impact as a freshman right away.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
FISCHER: Since sophomore year I've had the opportunity to build relationships with coaches at around 30 schools but recently I had been talking to Tulane, Minnesota, Cal Poly, Purdue, Cal St. Northridge and Xavier.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
FISCHER: Coach Caillet saw me while playing at CHS field against Buffalo during the high school season. We built a relationship over the phone right away and I was able to get down to visit a week later.

PBR: What did you enjoy about the recruiting process? What were your least favorite aspects?
FISCHER: I enjoyed building relationships with many coaches and seeing many facilities and programs around the country. I didn’t really experience any negative aspects while being recruited.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
FISCHER: There wasn’t one deciding factor, but after taking my visit I felt very comfortable with the school and the city, so I knew it was where I wanted to end up.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
FISCHER: Coach Mike Theis has made the biggest impact on my baseball career. He has coached me since I was in the second grade and is now on the Varsity staff so he continues to help me. He has not only helped me on the field but has instilled many life lessons in me such as always working hard and staying humble.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school
FISCHER: I plan on working hard and making an impact somewhere in the lineup with my bat my freshmen year.

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
FISCHER: Don’t rush anything, make sure you feel comfortable when making your final decision.

PBR: What goals do you and your high school team have for the upcoming seasons? What is a strong point (pitching, defense, offense) that you feel will help your team achieve that goal
FISCHER: Our goal is to make it to state. We will have a lot of depth on the bump, behind Eckland and Holetz and a few young guys on the come up.
