This upcoming weekend will feature an uncommitted 2021 left-handed arm at the Twin Cities Winter Open, in Chanhassen’s Riley Funk. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound southpaw has a fastball that consistently sits 81-82 mph with run.  A consistent strike thrower, Funk lands a slider with small shape that is 69-71 mph and a change-up 72-74 mph with solid fade action. The 101st ranked player and 14th overall lefty in MN, profiles a compact frame, but don't let that fool you as he has command for three pitches that can be thrown in any count.

Another uncommitted lefty is young 2023, Andrew Rakow.  The Champlin Park arm measures at 5-foot-11, 195-pounds and comes down the mound with a ¾ arm action.  Overall, Rakow is mechanically raw, but his fastball shows life at 81-82 mph, topping at 83 mph.  A breaking ball that has a 1/7 break with feel at 62-66 mph and an average change-up thrown at 68-69 mph.  Last time we saw Rakow was in late September which leaves us excited to see where he is on March 6th.

This event typically brings pop up talent, players showcasing for the first time, and uncommitted Seniors that can help at the next level.  We are looking forward to another Winter Open in the Twin Cities.

This event is designed to allow players to showcase their ability which allows colleges to identify prospective student-athletes earlier in the recruiting process or find players needed immediately for next year. Players will also be evaluated and considered for updated player rankings along with being considered for future PBR “Invite-Only” events. The showcase will be featured on the PBR’s website, where more than 900 college coaches subscribe to look for talent. Scouting reports, statistics, and videos will be hosted in player profiles. Top players will also be identified from this event.
