Prep Baseball Report Minnesota held the Unsigned Senior Showcase in Blaine, MN  at the National Sports Center on October 19th, 2014.  The event was for 2015 graduates with Minnesota and North Dakota players represented. In our coverage we have broken down the prospects by their respective position.

infielders

Kyle Horstmann, SS, Holy Family Catholic, 2015
5-foot-11, 170-pound shortstop. 7.04 60 time. Right-handed hitter with good rhythm in swing. Leg kick stride and trigger to contact. Slight hitch in load with line drive swing plane. Quick hands to ball. Ball jumps at contact. Long finish with gap to gap approach. 79 mph exit velocity. Shows good actions in field. Quality glove. Flashes of energy. Will field deep in crouch at times. Arm works. Follows throws consistently. Accurate at 81 mph across infield. Athletic enough to stay in middle infield at college level.

Jake Ashworth, 1B, Forest Lake, 2015
6-foot-1, 215-pound first baseman. 7.29 60 time. Left-handed hitter with slightly closed stance. Short to contact with line drive swing plane. Stays through ball well with level head and quiet actions. Different sound off bat compared to most in the event. 80 mph exit velocity off tee. More than adequate at first base. Aggressive to baseball with usable hands and feet. Runs well enough to possibly play in corner outfield. 72 mph arm strength across infield.

Eric Thomas, 2B, Albert Lea, 2015
5-foot-8, 155-pound second baseman. 7.31 60 time. Right-handed hitter with open stance with easy inline stride to toe. Deep load causing slight arm bar before swing. Line drive swing plane with gap to gap approach. Solid barrel awareness and contact. 80 mph exit velocity. Very active in infield. Gets into good position to field. Covers ground well laterally. Hands work in infield. Shows ability to turn double play from second base side. Quick release from over-the-top slot with short arm action. Above average actions on body control plays. 74 mph across infield.

Kyle Schnichels, RHP/SS, Academy of Holy Angels, 2015
6-foot-2, 155-pound 2-way player. 7.75 60 time. Right-handed hitter with open stance. Strides to closed while loading with shoulders. Rotational swing mechanics with line drive swing plane. Exit velocity of 68 mph. Average actions in field. Moves flat footed to ball. Usable glove. Makes routine plays. Range is limited. Throws with short arm action from over-the-top slot. 73 mph across infield.

Jeremy Thorson, RHP/SS, Sauk Rapids, 2015
6-foot, 185-pound 2-way player. 7.09 60 time. Did not hit due to football injury. Well built- thick chest with strength and flexibility. Average actions in infield. 74 mph across infield.

Ryan Masui, 3B/RHP, Minnetonka, 2015
5-foot-8, 175-pound 2-way player. 7.41 60 time. Right-handed hitter. Open stance with high leg kick trigger into swing. Bat is in good cocked position. Shows bat speed with compact line drive swing plane. Ball jumps at contact when timing is right. Quality gap to gap approach. Shows good first step quickness. Body is in position to make plays. Second base actions and arm strength. Quick release with minimal follow on throws. Shows ability to turn double play from second base side. 72 mph across infield.

Kyle Davis, RHP/3B, Hopkins, 2015
6-foot-3, 190-pound 2-way player. 7.81 60 time. Right-handed hitter using a narrow stance with short leg kick trigger to swing. Load is short and compact. Short to contact and through the zone. 79 mph exit velocity off tee in this event. Very active feet with good energy in field. Works well through baseball and follows throws. Arm works well from over-the-top slot with carry and accuracy. 81 mph across infield.

Garrett Gillen, SS, Blaine, 2015
6-foot, 180-pound shortstop. 7.31 60 time. Improved from 7.54 in previous August event. High hand set. Drops hands to trigger swing. Minimal weight shift through zone. Uses hands well in swing with pitches on outer half. 80 mph exit velocity. Defensively shows average actions, makes routine plays. Limited by foot speed. Arm works from over-the-top slot. Accurate throws across diamond at 76 mph. Overall made improvements in every statistical category since performing at event in August.

David Bradley, 3B, Saint James, 2015
6-foot, 160-pound third baseman. 7.19 60 time. Right-handed hitter with square stance. Short swing to contact with line drive swing plane. Rolls hands over at contact. 74 mph exit velocity.  Tends to field balls deep in crouch and flat-footed. Throws from over-the-top slot with short arm action. 68 mph velocity across infield.

Mitchell Martin, SS, Jordan, 2015
5-foot-10, 155-pound shortstop. 7.47 60 time. Left-handed hitter with aggressive swings at plate. Just looks like a hitter. Rhythm in mechanics. Attacks pitches with good bat speed and line drive swing plane. Proper load and keeps arms flexed with short path to contact. 84 mph exit velocity. Shows easy actions with adequate agility and range in field. Glove is usable and makes routine plays. Effort in throws from low-3/4 arm slot. 71 mph across diamond.

Parker Hanson, RHP/1B, Hawley, 2015
6-foot- 170-pound 2-way player. Very athletic player from Hawley.  Continues to show fast twitch athleticism across the field. Showed decrease in most statistical categories since August event due to heavy football workload. Great feel for pitches on mound. Future will be on mound at college level. Has intangibles. Projects very well. Good chance to be mid-upper 80’s by the Spring.

Jordan Loiland, RHP/SS, Bagley, 2015
6-foot-5, 165-pound 2-way player. 7.22 60 time. Right-handed hitter with balanced swing. Square stance with inline stride to pitcher. Flat swing plane through zone. 76 mph exit velocity. Fields flat footed with average range and actions in field. Throws from mid-3/4 slot across infield with average arm action. 68 mph across infield.

Lance Kilde, RHP/1B, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2015
6-foot-1, 200-pound 2-way player. 7.59 60 time. Right-handed hitter with high hand set to start. Lowers hands into slot; producing flat line drive swing plane. Front heel turn trigger with rotational swing through zone. Fields ball well out front. Average rhythm and quickness on left side of infield. Glove is usable. Throws from over-the-top arm slot with accuracy. 74 mph across infield.

Max Kaplan, 3B, Waseca, 2015
5-foot-9, 190-pound third baseman. 7.94 60 time. Right-handed hitter with 80 mph exit velocity. Starts hands high and drops to trigger. Controlled swing through zone. Flat swing plane. In the field tends to allow balls to get deep and underneath. Average range laterally. Short arm action from ¾ slot. 75 mph velocity across infield. Committed after event to Dakota County Technical College.
