Future Games: Pitching Statistics

The overall pitching at the Prep Baseball Report Future Games was, in a word, impressive. From top-to-bottom, the collection of uncommitted 2018 and 2019 arms showed extremely well in front of 200-plus college coaches at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.

With prospects representing 27 different states stretched across 16 teams, the collection of pitchers could satisfy any college recruiter’s sweet tooth. From big-bodied power arms to long-limbed projectable left-handers to quick-armed right-handers who can spin a breaking ball and everything in between, the Future Games unveiled many high-level prospects who weren’t as known on the national radar as some. That all changed over the course of three days on Aug. 4-6. 

In terms of pure fastball velocity, 64 pitchers eclipsed 87 mph, 17 of which were 89-plus. RHP Luke Albright (Fishers HS, IN), SS/RHP Seth Halvorsen (Heritage Christian HS, MN) and RHP Luke Patzner (Urbandale HS, IA) each touched 91 to lead the pack.

In terms of pure overall stuff and results, a few pitchers emerged as the big winners. RHP Jacob Maton (Glenwood HS, IL),  a wiry 6-foot-3, 170-pound right-hander, coupled his 89-90 mph fastball with one of the best breaking balls at the event, a sharp, late-breaking 78-80 mph slider that was nearly unhittable. Albright, a highly athletic 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-hander, ran his fastball up to 91 and it looks like he is just scratching the surface of his potential.
