Prep Baseball Report's MN Fall Review took place on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The event was held at the Vadnais Sports Center in Vadnais Heights, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota, Wisconsin & North Dakota from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple colleges in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, and my staff for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Fall Review; we have broken down the individual statistics below.

As we drill down into the statistics:

+ 17 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 14 players recorded 84+ mph exit velocities
+ 10 players recorded 78+ mph infield throws
+ 8 players recorded 78+ mph outfield throws
+ 6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 22 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Below we have highlighted the  top prospects by grad class, regardless of position, listed alphabetically.

 

top 2017 prospects

Joshua Fussy, OF, Buffalo, 2017
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.2 runner. Square crouched stance, body load, short to contact with weight transfer through swing, uses whole field, spray contact, avg. pop in bat, 73 mph exit velocity. Quick to the baseball, fields on side of ball occasionally, slightly elevated throws to target, solid accuracy, 77 mph arm strength from outfield.

Nick Herold, RHP, Coon Rapids, 2017
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher. #69 ranked player that will be making another jump up the 2017 rankings. Relatively new to pitching. Loose actions on mound with easy effort, above avg. extension to plate, ball jumps on hitter, with life. Fastball was 83-85 mph with varying run and cut action. Tight rotation on 11/5 breaking ball. Changeup has fade with solid feel for zone. Highly projectable late bloomer with better days ahead of him.

Alex Jacob, OF, Bismarck Century (ND), 2017
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.75 runner. Strong setup in box, wider base, creates good bat speed through zone, consistently barrels baseball, mid/pull approach, hard line drive contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Above avg. feet and actions in field, reads hops well, quick release on throws with carry and accuracy to target, 86 mph arm strength from outfield.

Samuel Larson, LHP, Princeton, 2017
5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed pitcher. Shows solid command of zone with 3 pitches. Good body control and has good sequence in delivery. Short clean arm action, repeats well, with quicker arm out front. Fastball was 76-78 mph with late running life. Lands breaking ball for strikes with avg. spin and 1/7 shape. Tends to slow arm on changeup; but has good feel for zone with fade in bottom of zone.

Michael O’Malley, OF, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2017
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.31 runner. Square stance, no stride, front heel turn trigger, short to contact, flashes strength in swing, stays on baseball through contact, gap to gap approach, 82 mph exit velocity. Plays through ball, good momentum on throws, solid footwork and actions, accurate throws to target, 74 mph arm strength.

Cole Parisien, 3B, Bismarck Legacy (ND), 2017
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.56 runner. Open stance, strides to square, slight shoulder load, flat plane through zone, finds barrel, mid/pull approach, 80 mph exit velocity. Fluid actions in field, good glove, feet work well, accurate arm to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.

Michael Voss, RHP, Edina, 2017
6-foot-4, 205-pound right-handed pitcher. #94 ranked in MN 2017 class. Will move up rankings once updated. Shows solid improvement across board. Fastball was 82-84 mph with late cut action across 2-planes. Breaking ball was sharper with varying 11/5-12/6 shape. Good action and fade on changeup. Recently committed to Concordia-St. Paul and should be a solid contributor for them.

top 2018 prospects (alphabetical)

Jake Dorff, SS, Blaine, 2018
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.19 runner. Easy load and stride, leg kick trigger, uphill swing plane, solid contact with extension, gap to gap approach, line drive and fly ball contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Works around ball, quick first step, covers ground, shows solid actions, accurate arm with avg. carry, 76 mph arm across diamond.
