2021 OUTLOOK:
2021 Pitching: Senior Ben Rosin (2019: 22.00 IP, .95 ERA) returns from the 2019 playoff roster, and is expected to anchor the pitching staff along with seniors Andrew Boeser and Will Rogers.  Seniors Will Conlin, Mason Dean, Paul Diekoff, Logan Grimm, Cole Hinkel, Reid Thurston, and juniors Brendan Goldman and Blake Guerin look to compete for innings for the Mustangs who typically throw 8-10 pitchers in a season.  As with every team, the success of the Mustangs in 2021 will largely be determined by how well we pitch.

2021 Position Players: Senior Catcher Will Rogers returns from the 2019 playoff roster, and senior Mason Dean is expected to lead in the infield.  Significant competition exists at most every position on the field with so many unknowns following the lost 2020 season.  Playing outstanding defense is always a top priority; there is obviously a strong correlation between pitching/defense and winning.  Our goal each season is to field .950 or higher; a challenging goal for a high school baseball team.  The Mustangs fielded .956 in 2019.  We expect to be very solid in the field every year, and will strive to achieve that .950 goal again in 2021.

Academics: The Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association honored 2020 All-State Academic in 2020.  The Mustangs had 4 recognized with this award: Brett Bateman, Mateo Cisneros, Sean Goldman, and Ben Kettelhut.  The 2021 senior class has many outstanding academic performers; we expect to have several All-State Academic candidates to nominate again in 2021.

Lastly: With so many unknowns going into the 2021 season, we expect to see a number of different players earn varsity playing time early in the season as they compete to earn playing time roles for the second half of the season and on into the Section playoffs." Head Coach Mark Downey
