Q&A With Minnesota St. Commit: Cody Ulfers

Cody Ulfers

Cody Ulfers, MIF, Waseca, Class of 2015

PBR:  Why did you choose Minnesota State?
ULFERS:  I chose Minnesota State because of the atmosphere. I wanted to be able to go to a place close to home with great schooling as well as baseball. All of the coaches and players over there are a very solid group of guys that will be a great fit for me for the next 4 or 5 years of my life.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
ULFERS:  I was also considering University of Minnesota Duluth, Winona State, and North Iowa Area CC.

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
ULFERS:  They first saw me at one of my high school games in Waseca. My relationship with the coaches has been fantastic and they have kept in touch with me weekly. I look forward to playing baseball for such a great coaching staff and program.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
ULFERS:  I am not sure what my role will be for next year. I hope to be able to come in and compete for a spot but whatever coach decides is best for me is what I will do.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
ULFERS:  My uncle has had the most impact on me as a baseball player. He made me the player I am today and I couldn't have done it without him.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
ULFERS:  I worked on my swing a lot this summer by trying to shorten it and be quicker with my hands. Also I have improved on my fielding a lot since the spring.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?
ULFERS:  The toughest player I have faced in high school is Luke Becker from Fairmont.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
ULFERS:  The recruiting process is a very tough but exciting time for a baseball player. Advice to other guys would be to just enjoy it and try to get the best fit for you as a player and student.
