The Hotlist: Unsigned Senior Pitchers

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

You can never have enough pitching and these arms could help a program at some level. Listed alphabetically below are several seniors still looking for a place to play after high school.

Jean Casanova, RHP, Waukegan HS, IL
Casanova is long and lean at 6-foot-3, 165 pounds with projection. He has put himself on the map as one of the top righties in Illinois this spring and even gained attention from scouts. He made a recent start on a cold, windy day and showed advanced feel with confidence in his three-pitch arsenal. His delivery is simple, clean and athletic. He gets downhill, staying on line with an athletic finish. His arm works quickly out of a high-3/4 slot. His fastball has late life and finish through the zone. In the first four innings of his outing, he sat 87-89 mph and then settled in at 85-87, touching 88 late. He can pound the bottom of the zone and holds his velocity from the stretch. His breaking ball has 11/5 shape with tight spin at 71-76. He shows good feel for a changeup with fading action at 75-78.
