12.14 Show-Me Preseason All-State: Outfield Analysis

On Sunday, December 14, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Show-Me Preseason All-State Showcase at All-Star Performance in St. Louis.  24 players from the 2016 class took part in the event.

Today we will break down the outfielders.  In the days to come, we will analyze the pitchers and infielders.

Top Outfield Prospect

Cole Stamper, Eureka, 2016
Stamper is a physical 6-foot 181-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. In on an upward trend in all phases of the game, posted one of event's best with 4.19 home-to-first and 87 mph exit velo, good round of batting practice, with gap-to-gap approach, pull power, athletic set-up, smooth/simple load, fast bat speed, level to extension. Defensively, fluid footwork, quick glove-to-hand exchange, quick over-the-top release, 79 mph positional velo, accurate throws, plays through the ball.

Grant Brueggenjohann, Parkway West, 2016
Brueggenjohann is a well-built 6-foot-3 198-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  In the outfield, had one of the event's best positional velo at 81 mph, fluid footwork, soft hands, clean exchange, quick release, somewhat accurate throws, easy arm action, over-the-top release.  At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm, minimal stride, some hand load, gap-to-gap approach, fast bat speed, 86 mph exit velo, high finish with hands, strong lower half, runs a 4.73 home-to-first.

Harrison Burns, MICDS, 2016
Burns is a 5-foot-8 156-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate, athletic stance, no wasted movement in load, swing path works inside of ball, middle-oppo approach, level path to extension, ran a 4.06 home-to-first, 78 mph exit velo. Defensively, high three-quarters release, fluid footwork, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws, one of best positional velos of event at 81 mph. 

Nick Claxton, De Smet, 2016
Claxton is a 5-foot-7 140-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Runs a 4.50 home-to-first, 75 mph exit velo, balanced set up, smooth load, lands in-line on front foot, gap-to-gap approach.  Defensively, high three-quarters release, somewhat accurate throws, plays through ball, quick glove-to-hand exchange, 67 mph positional velo. 

Hunter McDonald, Fort Zumwalt South, 2016
McDonald is an athletic 5-foot-11 167-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Runs a 4.30 home-to-first, 86 mph exit velo, balanced set-up, minimal stride, level bat path, line-drive approach, gap-to-gap.  Defensively, three-quarters release, throws a bit across his body, mostly accurate throws, plays through ball, quick footwork, fluid exchange, 80 mph positional velo. 

Devin Michael, Windsor, 2016
Michael is a lean 6-foot 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder.  At the plate, has 80 mph exit velo, athletic stance, slightly open, short/controlled stride, quick bat speed, level path, line-drive to pull gap in batting practice, 4.54 home-to-first. In the outfield, fluid footwork, clean exchange, long arm swing to three-quarters release, mostly accurate throws, 77 mph positional velo.

Nickolas Politte, Windsor, 2016
Politte is a strong 6-foot 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder.  Has an 86 mph exit velo, runs 4.30 home-to-first, starts in athletic position, smooth load, uses toe touch for timing, level path to extension, fast bat speed, gap-to-gap approach, hits with leverage. Defensively, attacks and plays through the ball, over-the-top release, quick release, clean glove-to-hand exchange, 75 mph positional velo.

Wilson Shanks, CBC, 2016
Shanks is a 6-foot-4 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Runs a 4.36 home-to-first, 79 mph exit velo, starts in square/athletic position, has toe touch, lands square, pull approach, fast bat speed. In the outfield, move to ball with a purpose, quick feet, crow hop, over-the-top release, plays through ball, somewhat accurate throws, 79 mph positional velo.  

Sam Swartz also took part in the outfield evaluations, a 2015 that was unable to attend the Unsigned Senior Showcase on November 8.
