OUTLOOK
The Monett Cubs look to avenge an 11-3 loss to Logan-Rogersville in the state quarterfinals, and get back to state playoffs in 2015.  The Cubs have all nine starters back from a season ago, including four that were selected to the MHSBCA All-State team. Two of those all state players are lefty bats that will also see time on the mound, senior Zack Hammond and junior Cameron Witt.  Witt is a 5-foot-10 170-pound athlete that hit a .463 clip and drove in 22 runs and scored 31. Hammond, who will be used as 1B as well, hit .400 last season with 25 RBI.  He was 16-for-16 in stolen base attempts and he set the school record with seven triples as a junior.  Senior, Blake Spain, a 6-foot-1 165-pound RHP, finished with a 6-2 record and 1.96 ERA a year ago, allowing just 17 runs in 76 innings of work.  He struck out 33 batters and walked 22. The fourth Cub All-State player, Jordan Hall, will return as the starting 2B, hitting .373 with three home runs 16 driven in.  Monett will also look for sophomore Mason Swearingen and junior Brett Gollhofer to add to the offense.  Swearingen is a 5-foot-7 145-pound C/OF that will give the Cubs another left-handed bat in the line up, while junior Brett Gollhofer is a strong 6-foot 195-pound 3B that will add power.  5-foot-11 160-pound sophomore RHP Jonathan Hawkins will be asked to play a role on the mound as well.  Monett is the #5 team in Class 4 and will contend for the state championship in June.
