Building Champions Scout Day: Infielders Analysis

On January 27, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas/Missouri held the Building Champions Scout Day.  Nearly 50 players attended in the 2021 to 2018 classes. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Infielders

Blake Anderson SS / 2B / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2021

Anderson is a 5-foot-8 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.49 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open stance, short in line stride, loose hands, level though the zone, high finish with hands, hands control the barrel, middl of the field contact during batting evals.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, short high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action works from different angles, plays behind the ball and works through the catch, smooth transfer on time with smooth footwork, soft hands

Jake Baker LHP / 1B / Lawrence Free State, KS / 2019

Baker is a physical 6-foot-4 210-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.57 60 and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, no wasted movement, repeats swing, balanced stand, short stride, quick hands with a slight natural live to swing plane, hard solid contact to middle and pull side during hitting evals.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, quick transfer, fields the ball in athletic position, fluid footwork, high three quarters arm slot.

Daniel Bebee C / RHP / Shawnee Mission South, KS / 2020

Bebee is a 6-foot-2 170-pound right-haded hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Bebee ran a 7.56 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts slightly open, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, controlled leg kick, body stays under control, in line stride, level path, stays on ball after contact, gap to gap approach. On the infield, 85 mph positional velocity, gains ground after the catch and transfer, smooth exchange, fields ball out front of feet, loose over the top arm action.

Evan Borberg C / RHP / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2020

Borberg is a 5-foot-7 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 8.31 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, loads against back side with quiet hands, in line stride, accelerates to contact, swing produced mostly line drives to middle of the field.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball, quick transfer, soft hands, clean exchanges.

Joseph Daneff SS / OF / Park Hill, MO / 2019

Daneff is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.63 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, lifts bat off shoulder to load, short in line stride, controlled body, swing produced mostly middle of the field contact during hitting evaluations. On the infield, 81 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, feet create momentum through the catch, hands and feet on time together, clean transfer, smooth actions with a quick release.

Camden Dayton 2B / OF / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021

Dayton is a 5-foot-8 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 8.13 60 and has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg lift, minimal hand movement in load, short stride, middle of the field contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 66 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, fluid glove to hand exchange, soft hands, quick to the ball. 

Castor Dodd 1B / OF / Brookfield, MO / 2019

Dodd is a physical 6-foot-1 205-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.32 60 and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, short in line stride, quick and strong hands, level path with quick bat whip, showed feel for the barrel and power to pull side, body stays under control during swing.  On the infield, 85 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, footwork creates momentum through the catch, fluid exchange, made all plays cleanly on infield evaluations. 

Jackson Hagen SS / RHP / Blue Valley , KS / 2021

Hagen is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 and has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin stance in base, minimal load, slightly closed stride, level path through extension, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic position with feet and hands ready for exchange, quick actions.

Dylan Hufft SS / 2B / Park Hill South, MO / 2021

Hufft is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.38 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin set up in base, slightly open, closes off stride at times, quick and fast hands, level path though extension, gap to gap approach, has feel for barrel.  On the infield, quick to the ball, 80 mph positional velocity, quick actions, aggressive to the ball, cleans exchange, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw with momentum through the catch.

Luke Johnson 2B / RHP / Blue Valley , KS / 2021

Johnson is a 6-foot 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas 2021 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, minimal hand movement, in line stride, gap to gap approach, short and compact, hands work inside the ball.  On the infield, high three quarters release, hands and feet work in sync during exchange, quick to the ball, quick transfer, 73 mph positional velocity.

Joseph LaBella 1B / RHP / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2021

LaBella is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.53 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal load, short stride, hands manage the bat, works ball gap to gap. On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, reverse pivot to throw to 2B, fluid movements, high three quarters arm slot, soft hands with clean exchanges, smooth footwork to the ball.

Zach Lauvetz SS / 2B / Rockhurst, MO / 2020

Lauvetz is a 5-foot-11 160-pound switch hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.88 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, lands in line with stride, quiet hands, loose hands, swing produced mostly gap to gap line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, over the top release, athletic actions, quick catch and throw, feet create momentum through the catch, 76 mph positional velocity, loose arm action, projectable and lean build.

Carson Liggett 1B / RHP / Blue Valley, KS / 2021

Liggett is strong and physics at 6-foot 185-pounds, right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.60 60 and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, fast bat speed, level though there zone, aggressive, body stays under control, mostly pull to middle line drives.  On the infield, 76 positional velocity, arm works from different angles, mostly high three quarters, smooth footwork to the ball, plays through the catch, clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws.

Jackson Mehlin 2B / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

Mehlin is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.53 60 and has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, stays on ball after contact, level swing path, controlled body with loose hands and barrel acceleration.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velocity, clean exchanges, high three quarters arm slot, smooth feet to the ball with momentum to throw, projectable frame capable of adding strength.

Wyatt Morgan 3B / 1B / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2019

Morgan is a strong 5-foot-10 200-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.88 60 and has a 91 mph exit velocity, transfer from Iowa. At the plate,  thin and open stance, some hand load as he strides, lands slightly closed, aggressive swing, mostly hard middle and pull side contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, 81 mph velo in the outfield, short over the top arm slot, quick transfer, plays the ball out front, fluid footwork to the ball, creates moment through the catch, arm works.

Kyle O'keefe SS / 2B / Blue Valley, KS / 2019

O’Keefe is a 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 6.90 60 and has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, hands walk away from stride, stays in line to stride, hands control the barrel, body stays under control, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, long arm circle, smooth feet to the ball, soft hands with clean exchanges, quick catch and throw.

Jude Putz SS / 2B / Bishop Miege, KS / 2021

Putz is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.52 60 and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, pre pitch rhythm in hands, short stride in line, gap to gap approach, level path to extension, simple and repeatable.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, quick feet to the ball, feet on time with exchange, fields ball in athletic position, athletic build with room to add strength.

Eastin White 2B / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2020

White is a 5-foot-10 140-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.70 60 and has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, no wasted movements, balanced and athletic stance, short stride, quiet hands, loose hands with quick bat speed, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball, quick catch and release, soft hands, feet and hands work on time together, high three quarters arm slot, lean and projectable build.

Quinton Robertson 3B / SS / Blue Springs South, MO / 2021

Robertson is a 5-foot-9 165-pound switch hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.53 60 and has a left handed exit velo of 78 mph and right handed exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, starts slightly open from left side, works inside the ball, middle to oppo line drives, some hand load, reverse toe top on both side, more middle to pull side as right handed hitter.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, long arm circle, clean exchanges, with fluid actions, 71 mph positional velocity.
