On October 23, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas/Missouri held the Fall Underclass Games in Manhattan, Kansas.  Nearly 60 players from around the two states from the 2019 and 2020 classes attended the event. 

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, stats and video. We continue the position-by-position break down of the event, as we take an in-depth look at the pitchers in the 2019 class. Click on the player's name to see their profile.

Missouri 2019 Pitchers

Mason Auer, RHP, Kickapoo (MO), 2019
Auer is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Auer worked his fastball at 80-to-83 mph, flashes late arm side run, curveball sharp at time, 67-72 mph, 12-to-6 action, command of change up at 76 mph, fastball arm speed, high three quarters release, controlled and smooth tempo in delivery, quick arm speed, throws with some effort and is aggressive down the mound.

Sam Beuerlein, RHP, Park Hill South (MO), 2019
Beuerlein is a 6-foot- 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Beuerlein has a strong and projectable frame for the mound, over the top release, loose arm action, body stays under control during delivery, in line direction toward the plate, throws with some effort at the end of delivery, fastball works at 79-82 mph, breaking ball has gradual 11-to-5 shape at 70-71 mph, shows signs of being a good pitch as he continues to develop. 

Braxton Bragg, RHP, Liberty (MO), 2019
Bragg is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Bragg mixed three pitches well, topping out with fastball at 83 mph, sitting 81-82 mph, fastball has late run, showed a controllable 11-to-5 curveball at 65-69 mph, slider had depth at 69-71 mph, looks to be a swing and miss out pitch for him down the road, had three strikeouts, two walks and no hits in outing, simple and repeatable delivery, strong bodied with loose high three quarters arm action, works both sides of the plate.

Grant Heizer, RHP, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2019
Heizer is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Heizer lived in the zone with fastballs and curveballs, high three quarters release, arm works, smooth tempo in delivery, repeats, like to work away from RHH, creates swing and miss and soft contact, fastball 78-81 mph, curveball has slurve type movement with 10-to-4 shape, has depth and throws for a strike.

Garrett Juergens, RHP, Sullivan (MO), 2019
Juergens is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Juergens challenged hitters with a three pitch mix during his inning of work, no walks, one hit and one strike out during inning, high number of strikes, fastball at 74-80 mph, gradual breaking ball with 11-to-5 action at 64-67 mph, slider at 71 mph, controllable change up at 70 mph, fastball arm speed, high three quarters arm slot, slot lowers at times and get under ball, works across body at times, adds deception. 

Josef Keilholz, RHP, Fatima (MO), 2019
Keilholz is a 5-foot-8 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Keilholz struck out two and walked one during outing, fastball at 75-78 mph, curveball flashed sharpness, 11-to-5 action, 63-65 mph, change up at 67-68 mph, near fastball arm speed, works quick between pitches, throws with some effort, high three quarters release, short stride down the mound. 

Seth Kilbourn, LHP, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2019
Kilbourn is a 5-foot-11 160-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Kilbourn walked two and allowed no hits in outing, fastball was 66-74 mph, sat mostly 66-69 mph, breaking ball has 1-to-7 action, 58-63 mph, high three quarters release, controlled leg lift with controlled body during delivery, simple mechanics, repeats, challenges hitters, works both sides of plate with fastball, majority ground ball outs.

Dylan Lankford, LHP, Lee’s Summit North (MO), 2019
Lankford is a 5-foot-8 135-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Lankford worked 73-75 mph with fastball, some with arm side run, showed a 1-to-7 breaking ball 62-64 mph, gradual break, controllable change-up at 64-65 mph, flashed arm side sink, loose arm action with projectable frame, slight tuck at balance point, in line stride. 

Justin Nace, LHP, Northland Chrisitian (MO), 2019
Nace is a 6-foot-2 215-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Nace recorded three strikeouts, two walks, no hits in outing, high three quarters release, hands raise with leg lift, in line stride and aggressive towards the plate, fastball at 77-79 mph, some with arm side run, slider flashed sharpness with late break, 64-66 mph, durable frame with easy arm action.

Nolan Rice, RHP, Blue Springs (MO), 2019
Rice is a 6-foot-2 176-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Rice’s fastball was 74-76 mph, comes from an over the top arm slot, repeats movements, in line down the mound, breaking ball has gradual 12-to-6 action, 68-69 mph, signs of being a good pitch as he develops, strong frame, with feel for the mound. 

Brady Saeugling, LHP, Blue Springs, (MO), 2019
Saeugling is a 6-foot 160-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Saeugling’s fastball was 72-74 mph, curveball was 62-64 mph, 1-to-7 action, over the top release, hands stay high in delivery, separate with stride, slightly open stride, smooth tempo, throws with regular effort.

Kansas 2019 Pitchers

Ryan Cox, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2019
Cox is a 6-foot-2 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Cox projects well on the mound, with long limbs and lean frame, over the top release, arm works, repeats delivery with high number of strikes during outing, fastball sat at 74-77 mph, most on a downhill plane to the bottom of the zone, 11-to-5 action on breaking ball at 57-59 mph, effective change up when he stays on top, flashed arm side release, 65-68 mph, fastball arm speed, two strikeouts, no walks and no hits during inning of work.

Evan Dean, RHP, El Dorado (KS), 2019 
Dean is a 6-foot 15-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Dean has an over the top release, repeats release point with simple delivery, works the bottom of the zone with mostly fastballs, works to both sides of plate inducing soft contact, two strikeouts, two walks, one hit during outing, fastball at 69-74 mph, some with late running action, curveball with sharp 11-to-5 action, 67-68 mph. 

Tyler Farmer, LHP, Derby (KS), 2019
Farmer is a 5-foot-9 140-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Farmer is a strike thrower, only four of twenty pitchers were balls, created soft contact, allowed one hit and struck out one during outing, heavy fastball works 67-70 mph consistently down in the zone, 1-to-7 shape breaking ball, 58-61 mph, shows signs of being a good pitch as he develops, lean frame with loose arm action, capable of adding strength to already clean delivery.

Jordan Jackson, RHP, Washburn Rural (KS), 2019
Jackson is a 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Jackson collected three strike outs, allowed one hit with no walks during his outing on the mound, fastball topped at 80 mph, sat 75-78 mph, fastball has late life, slight 11-to-5 action on breaking ball, change up at 61 mph, short over the top arm action, shows ability to repeat release point with fastball and locate, smooth rhythm in delivery, in line as he works down the mound. 

Ryan Knipfer, RHP, Derby (KS), 2019
Knipfer is a 5-foot-10 205-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Knipfer allowed no hits, no walks and struck out three, high number of strikes, challenged hitters with three pitches, mostly fastballs, 64-69 mph, curveball has gradual 11-to-5 action, change up at 57-60 mph, fluid delivery, over the top release, fill up the zone working consistently down.

Carsen Pracht, RHP, Bishop Carroll (KS), 2019
Pracht is a 5-foot-11 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Pracht throws strikes, no walks, two strikeouts, no hits in outing, short high three quarters arm action, stays tall and controlled during delivery, simple movements, repeats, fastball at 76-82 mph, breaking ball has slight 11-to-5 shape, 64 mph, showed a controllable knuckleball with sink, 61-62 mph, projectable pitchers frame.

Payton Smith, RHP, Washburn Rural (KS), 2019
Smith is a 6-foot 210-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Smith attacked the zone with fastball and slider, showed an 11-to-5 curveball at 57-62 mph, fastball sat 76-80 mph, some with late cutting action, slider showed late breaking action at 68-70, recorded three strikeouts with no hits and no walks in outing, throws with some effort, over the top release, aggressive down the mound with smooth accelerated rhythm, strong bodied. 

David Steffen, RHP, Shawnee Heights (KS), 2019
Steffen is a 6-foot-4 230-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Steffen was 77-79 mph with fastball, late running action, 67-69 mph curveball, 11-to-5 shape, down in zone, 69-72 mph change up, near fastball arm speed, flashed arm side run, throws three pitches for strike, high three quarters release, in line stride, simple and easy delivery, projectable with signed of velo increases as he develops.  

Hayden Turnbull, RHP, Washburn Rural (KS), 2019
Turnbull is a 5-foot-8 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Turnbull has an over the top release, throws with regular effort, smooth rhythm in delivery, in line stride, fastball at 66-71 mph, curveball at 59-62 mph 12-to-6 action, change up at 64-65 mph, near fastball arm speed, slight sink.

Reece Umbarger, LHP, Blue Valley West (KS), 2019
Umbarger is a 5-foot-11 140-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Umbarger worked 62-69 mph with fastball, works bottom of the zone, curveball at 52-55 mph, gradual 1-to-7 action, throws both pitches for a strike, over the top release, loose arm action, lean frame, repeats delivery, in line stride, throws with easy effort, working both sides of the plate.
