MO Preseason All-State Player Analysis: Corner Infielders

The MO Preseason All-State event was held on February 6th at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, MO. The 90+ player invite only event featured many of the top 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024's from across the state of Missouri. Today we are taking an in depth look at the corner infielders from the event.
Kyle Byrne 1B / LHP / CBC, MO / 2023Body: 5-foot-11, 175-pound stout frame and strong build. Hit: LHH. At the plate starts with a narrow stance and upright posture. Hands get set at shoulder height and utilizes a low stride with good rhythm. Lower half works linearly and weight shifts to the front side at contact. Quick hands through the zone. Line drive approach with current strength at contact. Power: 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: LH. INF-80 mph. Over the top arm slot with clean arm action and long release. Defense: In the infield shows smooth rhythm and clean exchanges. Shows a feel for glove action and soft hands. Good body control throughout the fielding process. Run: 7.97 runner in the 60. |
Quinn Council RHP / 1B / Chaminade College Prep, MO / 2023Body: 6-foot-6, 215-pound large and frame with room for added strength in the future. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a very wide stance and weight pre loaded into backside. Leg kick stride that lands neutral. Hands are set at shoulder height and close to the body. Rotational upper half and bat path. Slightly uphill swing with a big body lean. Hands work quickly through the zone. Balance is still developing. Power: 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-78 mph. Over the top arm slot with long arm action. Defense: In the infield shows sure-handed glove and good feet around the bag. Quickness of the exchanges are developing. Run: 7.89 runner in the 60. |
Parker Dempsey 1B / LHP / Timberland , MO / 2022Body: 6-foot-1, 187-pound lean and athletic frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: LHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and athletic posture. Hands set below shoulder height with a high back elbow. Leg kick stride to slightly closed position. Rocks load into lower half and rotates hard off the back leg. Rotational bat path and upper body with a strong top hand. Good overall bat speed on uphill bat path. Likes to get the ball up in the air and shows current strength at contact. Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: OF-79 mph. INF-82 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short arm action and hand working across the body at release. Defense: In the outfield attacks the ball with smooth rhythm and short steps. Fields the ball outside the glove side leg with some feel for glove action. Uses a shuffle style crow hop. In the infield shows short and active feet and a feel for soft hands and glove action. Works well around the bag. Run: 7.26 runner in the 60. |
Jayden Gegg 3B / RHP / Valle Catholic, MO / 2021Body: 5-foot-10, 185-pound stocky frame with broad shoulders. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a wide base and upright posture. Uses big leg kick for rhythm and lands foot back to where it started. Hands get set below shoulder height with a relaxed back elbow. Slight uphill bat path and body lean. Made consistent hard contact on a line drive path throughout the BP session. Good overall strength at contact with exceptional Blast Motion metrics. Rotational acceleration is well-above average. Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-76 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short arm action and release. Defense: In the infield likes to let the ball come to him with short/choppy steps for rhythm. Fields the ball out in front of the body. Glove action and range are developing tools. Run: 6.99 runner in the 60. |
Blayne Holman 1B / OF / Francis Howell, MO / 2022Body: 6-foot, 205-pound stocky frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a neutral stance and athletic posture. Hands get set at shoulder height and tucked into the body with a high back elbow. Uses a simple long stride to wide base with hands working back in separation. Small weight transfer into the back leg and then gets a lot of linear movement in the lower half to the front foot at contact. Leans back on finish rotates off of back leg. Has some quick hands and shows some strength at contact. Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-68 mph. OF-68 mph. In the outfield has an over top arm slot with a short release point. In the infield has a side arm arm slot with whippy arm action. Defense: In the outfield attacks the ball aggressively and fields the ball on the outside of the glove side leg. Tends to field the ball pretty deep into the body and uses a shuffle crow hop technique. In the infield works routes straight to the ball with active feet. Glove action and softness of hands are developing skills. Run: 8.07 runner in the 60. |
Tripp Johns 3B / 1B / Lafayette , MO / 2023Body: 6-foot-2, 208-pound strong and sturdy frame. Hit: LHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open and narrow stance with an upright posture. Hands set at shoulder height with slight arm-bar position. Quick load into stiff back leg into a normal stride that gets back to neutral. Rotational upper body and bath path with a strong top hand. Shows some serious strength at contact with exit speeds reaching up to 99 mph in the BP session off of the Trackman. Pull-side approach with quick hands working through the zone. Power:91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-81 mph. ¾ arm slot with clean arm action and long release. Defense: In the infield shows a feel for routes working around the ball with momentum headed to the target. Has a developing feel for soft hands and glove action. Works well on the move and is able to change arm slots if the play dictates it. Run: 7.99 runner in the 60. |
Jayden Jones 3B / RHP / Francis Howell Central, MO / 2022Body: 5-foot-10, 190-pound stocky and well-built frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a wide crouched stance and athletic posture. Hands set just below shoulder height with a high back elbow. Quick load into the lower half with hands working back in sync. Very short to the ball with a level bat path. Simple stride back to neutral with foot getting down early. Likes to get the ball up in the air. Has some strength at contact with exit speeds reaching up to 92 mph in the BP session off of the Trackman. Registers good rotational acceleration and gets good extension. Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-80 mph. Over the top arm slot with a long arm action and release. Defense: In the infield prefers to let the ball come to him with glove action out in front of the body. Plays underneath the ball well. Uses short/choppy feet when approaching the ball. Run: 7.50 runner in the 60. |
Cooper Robertson 3B / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2023Body: 5-foot-10, 195-pound stocky frame with thick lower half. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and upright posture. Slow loads into the lower half with simple stride and the foot getting down early. Hands set just below shoulder height right before launch. Bat angle starts vertical and works a very flat bat path. Shows some strength at contact. Finishes swing with good balance and even weight distribution. Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-79 mph. High ¾ arm slot with smooth arm action and release. Defense: In the infield shows a feel for rhythm and routes working around the ball with good direction towards the bag. Fields the ball out in front of the body. Clean exchanges. Run: 7.65 runner in the 60. |
Gannon Sturdy 1B / 3B / Kirkwood , MO / 2023Body: 6-foot-5, 265-pound large frame. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with an open stance and upright posture. Low hand set below shoulder height and arm-bar position. Uses a long leg kick stride into a wide base. Hands shoot back quickly into position. Rotational bat path and is looking to launch the ball into the air. Shows some pull-side pop. Registers very high hand speed and rotational acceleration metrics on the Blast sensor. Shows some current strength at contact with exit speeds reaching up to 94 mph in the BP session off of the Trackman. Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-69 mph. ¾ arm slot with a short arm action and release. Defense: In the infield fields the ball out in front of the body with a firm glove. Does a good job of picking hops and glove action and rhythm are developing skills. Run: 8.58 runner in the 60. |
Tyler Whitworth 1B / RHP / Hazelwood West, MO / 2023Body: 6-foot-4, 190-pound lean/athletic projectable frame. Hit: LHH. At the plate starts with a narrow open stance with an upright posture. Hands get set at shoulder height with a high back elbow. Uses a leg lift stride and slowly drifts weight into the front foot. Rotational bat path with a strong top hand. Hands work quickly through the zone. Showed some strength at contact with exit speeds reaching up to 93.5 mph in the bp session. Smooth rhythm and good balance throughout the swing. Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-81 mph. Over the top arm slot with short arm action and long release. Defense: In the infield prefers to sit on the ball and fields it out in front of the body. Feet work well around the first base bag. Routes and rhythm are developing. Run: 7.44 runner in the 60. |
Brady Wilson 3B / RHP / Francis Howell, MO / 2023Body: 6-foot-1, 155-pound lean and athletic frame with room for added strength and size. Hit: RHH. At the plate starts with a neutral stance and athletic posture. Rocks weight into the backside with short leg lift stride. Strides slightly closed. Hands get set at shoulder height with relaxed back elbow. Smooth rhythm and hands work quickly through the zone. Line drive approach and level bat path. Good overall bat speed and balance throughout the swing. Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF-76 mph. High ¾ arm slot with short arm action and long release. Defense: In the infield attacks the ball with smooth rhythm and short steps. Fields the ball out in front of the body in good fielding position. Showed some lateral range with the ability to change arm slots if the play dictates it. Run: 7.68 runner in the 60. |
