MO Upperclass Games: Catcher Analysis

The PBR Missouri Fall Upperclass Games took place on September 13th at Atkins Field in Columbia, MO. The event featured over 50 prospects from the 2021 and 2022 Classes. 

Over the next week, we will release our scouting reports on all players in attendance. Today, we begin with the catchers.

Nicholas Fitzanko C / OF / Parkway West, MO / 2021

Positional Profile: C / OF

Body: 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, 

Defense: C - 78 mph, pop times between 2.00-2.20 seconds, balanced setup behind the plate, clean transfers, short quick arm, natural blocking ability, OF - 84 mph, controlled approach to the baseball, winds up to throw, momentum towards target

Arm: Right-handed, clean arm action 

Hit: Right-handed, starts open, quiet load, rhythm to his hands, tilt in his barrel, leverages front side, looks to lift the baseball, high finish with hands, exit velocity of 88 mph.

Matt Jones C / OF / Lafayette, MO / 2022

Positional Profile: C / OF

Body: 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, projectable frame

Defense: C - 74 mph, one knee setup to receive, quick feet, quick transfer to release, mostly accurate throws, OF - 86 mph, works behind the ball, smooth strides to the baseball, momentum towards target. 

Arm: high three-quarter release, short arm action 

Hit: Right-handed, starts slightly opened, quiet load, in line stride, flat bat path, contact out front, remains balanced throughout, primarily pull side contact during round, exit velocity of 85 mph.

Eli Marvin C / 3B / East Carter , MO / 2022

Positional Profile: C / 3B

Body: 5-foot-9, 175-pounds, stocky build, some strength in lower half 

Defense: C - 78 mph, pop times between 1.93-1.98 seconds, natural receiving ability, quick transfer to release, clean over the top arm action, some carry to the baseball, mostly accurate throws, INF - 82 mph, light on his feet, shows range on the infield, clean transfers

Arm: over the top release, clean arm action

Hit: RHH, balanced at the plate, rhythm to his hands, left lift into load, aggressive swing, very quick bat, flat bat path, produced hard contact during round, exit velocity of 92 mph.

Aidan McNamee C / 3B / Eureka, MO / 2022

Positional Profile: C / 3B

Body: 5-foot-11, 185-pounds, stocky build

Defense: C - 74 mph, natural receiving ability with a one knee down set up, quick actions behind the plate, clean footwork, short and quick arm action, mostly accurate throws, INF - 72 mph, controlled approach to the baseball, clean transfers 

Arm: short arm action, high three-quarter release

Hit: Right-handed, relaxed stance at the plate, quiet hands, simple weight shift load, in line stride, flat bat path, exit velocity of 82 mph. 

Run: 7.58 runner in the 60

Blake Pryor C / RHP / Nevada, MO / 2021

Positional Profile: C / OF / RHP

Body: 6-foot, 200-pounds, larger frame, long limbs 

Defense: C - 71 mph, pop times between 2.10-2.33 seconds, narrow set up, soft hands to receive, clean footwork, quick transfer to release, OF - 83 mph, aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, momentum towards target

Arm: clean arm action, high three-quarter release

Defense: C - 74 mph, pop times between 2.14-2.26, bigger body behind the plate, balanced set up, soft hands to receive, clean transfers

Arm: short arm action, high three- quarter release on throw downs.

Hit: RHH, open stance to start, quiet load, longer stride, flat bat path, balanced throughout swing, primarily pull side contact during round, exit velocity of 83 mph
