Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the MOKAN Mid-Summer Open at Meador Park in Springfield, MO on July 19. 

Players profiles have been updated with profile pitcher, running times, velocities and videos.  We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the infielders  performances today.  Although, some infielders may have participated various positions, this is just a look at the infield performances.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Infielders

Brice Bird, 2B, Stockton, 2017
Bird is a 5-foot-7 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri's 2017 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and has an 82 mph exit velo.  At the plate, thin stance, controlled in line stride, some hand load, level path through the zone, middle to pull line drives.  On the infield, 65 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick catch and throw, fields ball in position ready to throw, fluid footwork with exchange.

Hunter Burtrum, 3B, West Plains, 2019
Bartrum is a 5-foot-9 220-pound right-handed hitting third-baseman in Missour’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.82 60 and has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in a balanced stance, leg kick, flashed power to pulls side, loose hands, contact mostly to pull side in batting practice.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork, quick transfer.

Shane Gruener, 2B, Logan Rogersville, 2017
Gruener is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin set up, controlled leg kick, short stride, aggressive swing, mostly middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release, gains ground to first base after catch, loose arm, quick feet in sync with hands and exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Chris Misemer, 1B, Hollister, 2018
Misemer is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting first-baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.63 60 and has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, balanced stance, no wasted movement, flashed power to pull gap, gap-to-gap approach.  At first base, 70 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, mostly accurate throws, footwork creates momentum towards target, clean exchange. 

Brady Owen, 2B, Willard, 2017
Owen is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 7.63 60 and has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, controlled leg kick, showed some power to the pull gap, mostly pull side line drives, aggressive swing, feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, over the top release, aggressive to the ball, plays through the catch, quick catch and throw, hands and feet work together, mostly accurate throws. 

Ethan Parks, SS, Hollister, 2018
Parks is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, short stride with no wasted movement in hands, level though the hitting zone, flashed pull side power.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, short high three quarters release, plays though the ball with quick footwork, quick catch and throw, accurate throws.

Garrett Rice, 3B, Willard, 2020
Rice is a 6-foot-1 235-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.84 60 and has a 91 mph exit velo. At the plate, strong build, open stance, toe tap, accelerated swing, pull side power, loose hands, quick bat speed. On the infield, over the top arm slot, aggressive to the ball, accurate throws, clean exchange. 

Brett Schellen, 2B, Aurora, 2017
Schellen is a 5-foot-5 138-pound right-handed hitting second-baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 7.59 60 and has an exit velo of 75 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, high leg lift, in line stride, swing produced middle of the field contact, showed feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, short over the top release, moves well to the ball, momentum through the catch, quick exchang with accurate throws.

Sam Shaffer, SS, Liberty, 2018
Shaffer is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.78 60 and has a 72 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, short stride, mostly middle to pull contact, some pull pop.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, throws with a low arm slot, aggressive footwork to the ball, mostly accurate throws, fluid exchange and release.

Memphys Starks, 3B, Ozark, 2020
Starks is a 5-foot-10 209-pound switch-hitting third-baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 8.53 60 and has an exit velo of 80 mph from the right side and an 81 mph exit velo from the left side.  At the plate, on the right side, smooth rhythm, gap-to-gap approach, loose hands, quick bat speed, body under control, from the left side, smooth rhythm, lower half load, more pull side contact, level and accelerated bat path.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields ball in athletic position, quick catch and throw, plays through the catch with footwork, mostly accurate throws. 

Logan Thomazin, 3B, Walnut Grove, 2018
Thomazin is a 6-foot-2 190-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.82 60 and has a 91 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, short in-line stride, loose and aggressive hands, consistent solid contact to the middle and pull side of the field, flashed power, advanced swing.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, moves well to the ball, athletic actions, plays through the catch, clean transfer working with feet, accurate throws with carry.

Payton Weber, SS, Hollister, 2018
Weber is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and had an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load, minimal stride, no wasted movement, loose hands, accelerated barrel, stays on ball through contact, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, soft hands, quick feet, quick catch and throw, accurate throws.

Jake Wheeler, SS, Stockton, 2018
Wheeler is a 5-foot-11 140-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and has a 78 mph exit velo.  At the plate, starts slightly open with smooth load into back side, minimal hand load, level path through the zone, short to contact, mostly line drives to the middle of the field, solid consistent contact.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, athletic actions, high three quarters release, quick feet, plays through the ball with momentum towards 1B, accurate throws with carry.
