Mac N Seitz Black Sox Scout Day: 2020-2021 PItchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Mac N Seitz Black Sox Scout Day on Saturday, February 24 in Kansas City, Missouri.  Over seventy players in the 2021 to 2018 classes participated. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the pitchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

This group of pitchers had eleven pitchers in the 2021 class and fourteen in the 2020 class.  Seven pitchers were left-handed and eighteen were right-handed.  Six pitchers were 84 mph mph or better with their fastball  Here is a look at the 2020-2021 pitchers from the Mac N Seitz Scout Day.

Steven Azzaro C / OF / St James Academy, KS / 2021 Azzaro is a 6-foot-1 158-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Azzaro comes from an over the top arm slot, choppy tempo, long take away from glove, in line down the mound, throws with regular effort, finishes in athletic position, fastball at 69-71 mph,, breaking ball at 53-55 mph, 11-to-5  shape, 55-57 mph change up, slight sink, near fastball arm speed

Aidan Baltz SS / RHP / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020 Baltz is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Baltz has a quick tempo in delivery, slight rotation with left lift, high three quarters arm slot, tall and fall type delivery, in line acceleration down the mound, finishes in position ready to field, quick and loose arm action, fastball at 78-81 mph, breaking ball at 73-75 mph, 11-to-5 shape, down in the zone, late and gradual action, 73-77 mph change up, works down the zone, throws with fastball arm speed.

Kyle Brown 3B / RHP / Hickman , MO / 2020 Brown is a strong 5-foot-9 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Brown has a simple and repeatable delivery, high three quarters arm slot, smooth acceleration down the mound, stays in line, keep hands high, body stays under control, fastball at 79-83 mph, curveball at 70-71, 11-to-5 shape, late and gradual break, change up at 70-73 mph, throws with fastball arm speed, showed command of fastball at the bottom of zone and showed ability to throw secondary pitchers for strikes.

Benjamin Bryan C / RHP / Blue Springs South, MO / 2021 Bryan is a 6-foot 202-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Bryan has a tall and fall type delivery, controlled leg lift, accelerates down the mound, in line stride, three quarters arm slot slinging type arm whip, fastball at 72-75 mph, breaking ball at 61-63 mph,  has late 11-to-5 action, change up at 68-72 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed, down in zone, slight sinking action.

Ty Campbell C / 2B / Blue Springs South, MO / 2021 Campbell is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Campbell has a smooth tempo and acceleration in his delivery, clean arm action, repeats well, throws with some effort at release, slight rotation at at balance point, over the top arm slot, fastball at 69-72 mph, breaking ball at 53-58 mph, 12-to-6 breaking ball, sharp break at times, change up at 61-63 mph, some with late sink, throws with fastball arm speed, high percentage of strikes with all pitches

Mack Clark C / SS / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020 Clark is a 5-foot 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  Clark comes set with a thin stance, lift leg straight up, creates in line acceleration down the mound, over the top arm slot, simple and repeatable delivery, fastball at 81-84 mph, curveball at 68-73 mph, 11-to-5 shape with depth, late action, change up at 71-73 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed, some sink.

Brennan Connell RHP / 3B / Olathe West , KS / 2021 Connell is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  Connell comes from and over the top arm slot, controlled leg with rotation, smooth acceleration down the mound, tall and fall type delivery, arm works with loose arm action, hits the ball well, fastball was 79-81 mph, has command, breaking ball at 66-68 mph, 12-to-6 shape, throws for a strike and looks to be a good pitch with continued development, downward action, change up at 66-68 mph, slight sinking action, fastball arm speed, athletic build and clean arm action would suggest more to come down the road.

Ryan Eglich OF / RHP / Blue Springs, MO / 2020 Eglich is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Eglich has an over the top arm slot, smooth and controlled rhythm, long arm circle, finishes in athletic position, throws with regular effort, fastball 73-75 mph, breaking ball at 65-67 mph, gradual 11-to-5 shape. change up at 67-69 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed,

Trevor Gray OF / LHP / Raymore-Peculiar, MO / 2020 Gray is a lean 6-foot-1 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Gray comes from a high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, controlled leg lift, accelerates to stride, n line stride, throws with regular effort, fastball at 71-73 mph, occasional arm side run, slightly downhill plane, breaking ball 62-64 mph, 10-to-4 shape on breaking ball, mostly down in the zone, change up at 67-70 mph, slight arm side run, near fastball arm speed.

Adam Gray RHP / 3B / Lees Summit North, MO / 2021 Gray is a long and lean 6-foot-4 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. Gray short over the top arm slot, short leg lift, body stays under control, repeatable delivery, fastball at 81-84 mph, breaking ball at 69-71 mph, gradual 11-to-5 break, change up at 73-74 mph, near fastball arm speed, big frame with more growth down the road.

Elijah Gross LHP / OF / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2020 Gross is a 6-foot-1 165-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Gross has an over the top arm slot, throws with regular effort, repeats a simple delivery, fastball at 76-79 mph, curveball has late and gradual 1-to-7 action, throws for a strike, change up with slight arm side sink, at 67-73 mph, near fast arm speed, slender frame with quick arm would suggest velo and command increases down the round.

Thomas Hochard lll SS / RHP / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2020 Hochard is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  Hochard has a strong lower half, controlled body during delivery, smooth tempo with in line stride, consistent and repeatable release out front, high three quarters arm slot, fastball at 76-78 mph, breaking ball at 65-67 mph, 12-to-6 shape, change up at 71-74 mph, slight arm side run.

Jaylon Johnson OF / LHP / Blue Springs South, MO / 2020 Johnson is a 6-foot-1 178-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Johnson has an over the top arm slot, clean arm action, stays in line, repeats, tall and fall type delivery fastball at 74-77 mph, works glove side at times, change up at 68-70 mph, slight sinking action.

Tyler Leachner 3B / RHP / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2021 Leachner is a lean 5-foot-11 143-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Leachner raised knee to glove, stays under control down the mound, over the top arm slot, clean arm action, fastball at 73-75 mph, slight late run, breaking ball 67-69 mph, 12-to-6 action, some with late downward movement, change up at 65-67 mph, slight sink, throws with near fastball arm speed.

Weston Madden RHP / 3B / Desoto, KS / 2021 Madden is a 6-foot 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Madden has a quick and loose arm action, stable body, in line stride, controlled leg lift with slight tempo increase as he gets down the mound, lands square to the plate, fastball at 767-78 mph, breaking ball at 64-67 mph, early but sharp at times 11-to-5 action, change up at 70-72 mph, some arm side sink, throws with near fast ball arm speed.

Jackson Miller OF / RHP / De Soto , KS / 2021 Jackson Miller, RHP, De Soto (KS), 2021 Miller is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Miller works his fastball at 74-76 mph, some arm side release, curveball at 61-64 mph, 11-to-5 spin, change up at 69-70 mph, some sinking action, comes from a high three quarters arm slot, holds hand high during delivery, lands square to home plate, controlled and smooth tempo.

Hunter Milstead LHP / OF / Olathe South , KS / 2020 Milstead is a 6-foot 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Milstead has some deception in tempo and mechanics, lifts leg up and down on same plane, separates with in line stride and slight increase in tempo, arm works with an over the top release, fastball at 68-71 mph, will work glove side, curveball at 58-59 mph, 12-to-6 action, change up at 67-60 mph, throws with fastball arm speed.

Jacob Misiorowski RHP / OF / Grain Valley , MO / 2020 Misiorowski is a long and lean frame 6-foot-5 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Misiorowski has as a quick and loose arm, throws with some effort, clean and athletic delivery, gets through releasee point, fastball has some late life with two-seam action, topping at 88, working 85-87 mph, breaking was sharp times, 70-72 mph, flashed depth with 11-to-5 action, change up has slight arm side release, throws with near fastball arm speed.  Slender build with quick arm speed, look for increases as he continues to develop.

Teague Robertson SS / RHP / Hickman , MO / 2020 Robertson is a long and loose 6-foot-1 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Robertson works works with a high three quarters arm slot, slight hip rotation at balance point, accelerates with smooth tempo down them mound, creates in line direction, throws wit some effort, arm works, clean action,  fastball at 76-79 mph, works on a downhill plane, some with arm side run, curveball at 65-68 mph, 12-to-6 action, change up at 69-70 mph, throws with fastball arm speed, tall and lean build with room to add strength to already clean delivery, expect increases over time.

Jake Sawyer RHP / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2021 Sawyer is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Sawyer was 72-74-mph with fastball, 61-63 mph with breaking ball, early 11-to-5 break, some sharp, starts on same plane as fastball, 67-70 mph with change up, occasional sink, near fastball arm speed, controlled delivery, throws with regular effort, keep shoulders level, simple and repeatable delivery.

Camron Shumate OF / 1B / Blue Springs South , MO / 2020 Shumate is a durable 5-foot-11 192-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Shumate has a quick tempo, short over the top arm slot, clean arm action, aggressive down the mound, throws with some effort, works in line with athletic finish, quick arm speed, fastball works downhill at 82-85 mph, works both sides of the plate, 1-to-7 breaking ball, 66-68 mph, some sharp with depth, change up at 74-78 mph, slight arm side run, throws with fastball arm speed.

Grant Strong OF / LHP / Olathe East, KS / 2021 Strong is a strong and athletic 6-foot-3 180-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Strong has a quick and loose arm action, slight coil at top of balance point, over the top release, aggressive acceleration down the mound, in line, smooth tempo, fastball worked to the bottom of the zone, 81-83 mph, touching 85 mph, breaking ball 65-68 mph, late and sharp break, 1-to-7 action, throws for a strike, change up at 73-74 mph, throws with fastball arm, flashes late arm side run, has feel for young age.

Will Thompson SS / RHP / St Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2020 Thompson is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Thompson hides ball on back side as he raises leg, some rotation to balance point, high three quarters arm slot, hands raise and lower with leg lift, lands slightly open keeping shoulders level, athletic finish, fastball at 75-78 mph, breaking ball at 60-64 mph, gradual 11-to-5 action, change up at 65-72 mph, near fastball arm speed, some with sinking action.

Jaden Winder RHP / SS / Chillicothe , MO / 2020 Winder is a 6-foot-3 205-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  Winder throws with some effort as he increases tempo down the mound, works in line, high three quarters arm  action hides ball well with short takeaway, clean arm action, repeats delivery, throws strikes fastball at 83-86 mph, downhill plane, breaking ball at 70-73 mph, late 11-to-5 action, change up at 73-77 mph, slight arm side run, has feel, near fastball arm speed.

Tye Wood OF / LHP / Gardner Edgerton, KS / 2021 Wood is a 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. Wood comes from a high three quarters arm slot, lands slightly closed, throws with some effort, falls slightly to 3B at finish, works slightly uphill with shoulders as he gets down the mound, arm works, fastball at 74-76 mph, arm side running action, breaking ball at 2-to-8 shape, late break, starts in the strike zone, 65-66 mph, change up at 71-73 mph, slight arm side release, near fastball arm speed.
