Missouri Class of 2024 Rankings: Update

By: Kevin Moulder & Diego Solares
PBR Missouri Staff

We've updated the state's 2024 rankings following our extensive winter circuit, and a few days away from the start of the 2023 high school season. Our staff saw an abundance of prospects throughout the months of January and February, gathering in-depth information on players across the entire state.

Below you'll learn more about a few names at the top of this deep class, as well as players that rose up our board, or debuted for the first time.

MOVEMENT AT THE TOP

+ The top three prospects in this class remain the same, in order: INF Trey Snyder (Liberty North, 2024; Tennessee), LHP Cole Gibler (Blue Springs, 2024; Arkansas), and INF Drew Dickerson (Lee's Summit West, 2024; Missouri). All three are slotted within the top-100 nationally and headline a class that's shaping up to be as deep as their predecessors.

Trey Snyder

+ LHP Brady Kehlenbrink (Parkway South, 2024) jumps to number four overall in this update after an explosive winter. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound strong-bodied southpaw represented Team Missouri at the PBR Future Games last August, committing to Louisiana State not much afterwards. Kehlenbrink attended our Preseason All-State showcase on February 4th and stole the show, running his fastball up to 93 mph with continued feel for his secondaries. He heads into his junior year as the presumptive ace of a Parkway South staff that's looking to make some noise this spring:

From 2/4/23: "...the top performer at Saturday’s event and stole the show with a dynamic, high-octane bullpen. Built at an extremely physical 6-foot-1, 200-pounds with broad shoulders and strength throughout, Kehlenbrink worked with intent and controlled aggression down the mound. He pumped his fastball at 90-92 mph from a high release point (5.7 ft.) on average, topping at 93 mph on the final bullet of his ‘pen. Aside from the high levels of velocity, Kehlenbrink averaged nearly 20 inches of vertical break on his fastball, allowing it to play with even more jump and carry from that high arm angle. He spun his breaking ball with conviction at 74-76 mph with depth and tight, downer spin from a 12/6 plane, and rounded out his arsenal with a firm 77-80 mph changeup. Kehlenbrink’s set to rise in our next rankings update and the PBR Future Games alum has solidified himself as a premier arm in the state, regardless of class."

Brady Kehlenbrink

+ Climbing over 20 spots, now sitting at No. 9 overall, is RHP Jack Nobe (St. Francis Borgia, 2024), who's another dynamic athlete in this group. Still uncommitted, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Nobe has regularly impressed us, starting as a member of Team Select at the PBR Future Games and again this winter at the Rawlings Tigers Scout Day. Nobe's fast right-handed arm has been up to 93 mph on the mound, sitting in the upper-80s to low-90s with his fastball, and working two complimentary secondaries off it. While still fully harnessing feel for himself down the mound, Nobe's raw stuff is as loud as any in the class:

From 2/9/23: "...came away from this event as a major winner, impressing thoroughly on both sides of the ball. Nobe’s day started when he ran one of the day’s fastest 30-yard dashes (3.75) and posted a 1.64 10-yard split, which was also amongst the event’s leaders. He showed an athletic, uphill left-handed swing in BP that produced regularly elevated contact both on average (307 ft.) and peak (356 ft.). Nobe’s hardest barrel jumped off his bat at 97.4 mph and his regular knack for hard contact (89.2 mph) proved throughout. He hopped on the mound afterwards and produced the day’s firmest fastball velocities, sitting at an effortless 89-91 while topping at 93 mph. He spun a tight, firm 77-79 mph slider with depth as well, mixing in an 82-83 mph changeup throughout his ‘pen. Nobe’s status as a premier prospect in this class is evident, and he’s amongst the state’s top uncommitted juniors heading into the spring season."

RISERS

Kaden Durnin RHP / Camdenton, MO / 2024

From 3/1/23: "...perhaps the day’s biggest winner, standing out on both sides of the ball. The PBR Future Games alum started his day out with an electric showing on the mound, pounding the lower half of the strike zone with a 90-92 mph fastball. Durnin spun a 72-73 mph curveball to the arm side of the plate, and he located a firm 85-86 mph changeup below the zone as well. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior swung one of the event’s more physical right-handed bats, peaking at 97 mph on his firmest barrel. Committed to Wichita State, Durnin is going to be an integral part of the Lakers’ spring this season, and he’s an on-the-rise 2024 to know in Missouri."

Casen Murphy LHP / Park Hills Central, MO / 2024

From 2/7/23: "...came away from the Sports Barn on Saturday as a major winner. Set to rise in the state’s next rankings update, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound uncommitted junior impressed in all aspects of his workout. Murphy hopped on the mound to start and pounded the zone with three pitches, including an 87-88 mph fastball that spun at 2400+ RPM on average with rise (17.7 IVB) and run (17 HM). He spun a 75-77 mph breaking ball at 2400+ RPM as well with depth and sweep, while effectively limiting spin on a low-80s changeup that moved as much as 23 inches horizontally. After one of the event’s more polished ‘pens, Murphy ran a 6.98 60-yard dash and barrelled balls up with regularity, averaging 88.8 mph with a 94.5 mph max exit velocity. His furthest batted ball also traveled 348 ft., which finished towards the top of the event’s leaderboard. Murphy paced all outfielders in throwing velocity with a 93 mph high, reaching that number on three of his four throws. He checks several boxes from a prospect standpoint and is certain to garner plenty of interest moving forward."

Lucas Redd RHP / Rockhurst, MO / 2024

From 2/17/23: "...perhaps the day’s biggest winner, impressing our scouts thoroughly on both sides of the ball. At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Redd’s physical frame and added strength since the fall aided him in generating some of the loudest outputs of our entire winter calendar, both on the mound and at the plate. Redd confirmed the positive reports we’d heard on him throughout the winter in his ‘pen, pumping his fastball at 88-91 mph, topping at 91.8 mph on his firmest bullet. He spun a sharp slider with depth and late snappy break at 70-73 mph, averaging nearly 23 inches of horizontal movement on the pitch. Redd also featured a firm 83-84 mph changeup that played with gradual arm-side action, rounding out a powerful three-pitch arsenal from the uncommitted junior. He swung a loud right-handed barrel to pair off his talents on the mound, squaring up the hardest hit ball of the entire event (101.8 mph) and elevating one 370 feet, per TrackMan. Redd’s set to generate plenty of buzz heading into his junior season, and he’ll certainly play a big role for a talented Rockhurst squad this spring."

Henry Cordes RHP / MICDS, MO / 2024

From 2/9/23: "...arguably his most polished look at this event. A proportionally strong 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete with more projection to come, Cordes showed feel and polish throughout his ‘pen for a strong three-pitch mix. His fastball played at 87-88 mph, peaking at 89 mph, with late arm-side action from a short, quick, continuous arm path. Cordes’ changeup played off a similar path to his fastball at 78-79 mph, and he also mixed in a tight, two-plane slider at 78-80 mph with fastball conviction. With three pitches and plenty of room to fill out, Cordes is poised for a strong spring season at MICDS and he’s just scratching the surface of his ceiling."

Sam Wyrick 2B / Helias Catholic , MO / 2024

From 3/1/23: "...still uncommitted, Wyrick excelled on both sides of the ball, starting his day on the mound with one of the event’s most polished ‘pens. He pounded the strike zone with his fastball, a pitch that worked primarily in the lower quadrant at a relatively easy 89-91 mph. Wyrick spun a 75-77 mph breaking ball with intent and gradual break off an 11/5 plane, and he threw a 78-80 mph changeup at arm speed too. Following his work on the mound, Wyrick swung a loose, easy right-handed bat, generating above-average marks in average exit velocity (88.3 mph) and at peak (93 mph) without much effort. He’s sure-handed on the infield as well, working in rhythm with an 83 mph high across the diamond. Wyrick came away from this event as a name-to-know junior on the market with the spring season set to start."

Mark Ross II 3B / Glendale, MO / 2024

From 3/1/23: "...since his commitment to Central Arkansas, and the 5-foot-11, 195-pound highly physical junior certainly didn’t disappoint. Ross II swung arguably the day’s fastest bat, consistently getting off aggressive hacks and producing explosive contact as a result. His 95.2 mph average exit velocity led the entire event, and his 99.5 mph peak nearly did too. Ross II also ran a 6.88 60, the event’s third fastest time, and he led all infielders in throwing velocity at 91 mph. With inherent strength and loud tools to pair, Ross II is certainly set to rise up our rankings next update, and he’s poised for a big spring on a Glendale squad that should make some noise at the 5A level."

Dominic Anselmo C / Marquette, MO / 2024

From 3/4/23: "...throughout the off-season, and the 6-foot-1, 195-pound uncommitted backstop did nothing but confirm those in this look. Anselmo’s advanced raw power proved early, as he easily squared balls up with authority, averaging 93.1 mph per barrel while peaking at 100.9 mph. His furthest ball backspun 367 ft. to the pull-side in BP, and his ability to regularly drive the baseball (278 ft.) is worth noting, too. His tools translated to the other aspects of his workout, as Anselmo ran a 6.71 60 and reached an 85 mph high from the crouch, popping consistently in the 1.86-to-1.91 range. He checks several boxes from a prospect standpoint and is one of the top uncommitted junior catchers in Missouri."

Seungmin Song RHP / Parkway Central, MO / 2024

From 3/4/23: "...was a two-way winner from last weekend’s event. A strong, sturdy 6-foot, 200-pound athlete, Song’s day started with an impressive round of BP, as he consistently squared up line drives to all fields, though favoring the pull-side. He was all over the barrel (80%), averaging 92.9 mph per swing with a 99.8 mph peak. Positionally, Song ran a 7.14 60 and showed advanced arm strength across the infield, firing a 91 mph high. His arm talent translated to the mound, where Song primarily sat in the upper-80s with his fastball, touching 90 mph once. He spun two breaking balls with similar action and velocity bands, each of them spinning over 2400 RPM at peak. Song’s 80-82 mph changeup rounded out his arsenal, and it’s a pitch he threw at fastball arm speed and slot, killing spin with 13+ inches of horizontal action on average. Song should play a big role for the Colts this upcoming season as they attempt to return to the 5A state playoffs"

Trace Harrington 1B / Republic, MO / 2024

From 3/1/23: "...continues to show some of the most advanced bat strength in the state’s 2024 class. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound uncommitted junior barreled balls up at 91.4 mph on average, peaking at 99.6 mph on his firmest swing. Harrington’s furthest batted ball traveled 393 ft., the day’s furthest mark by 16 feet, and his average batted distance finished one foot behind the event leader. Harrington’s strength showed on the infield too, as his 89 mph high was only two ticks behind the day’s hardest mark."

Brayden Schnurbusch RHP / Liberty, MO / 2024

From 2/7/23: "...stands at long-limbed, lanky 6-foot-5, 180-pounds. Schnurbusch got down the mound in rhythm, pumping his fastball at 86-88 mph from a loose arm stroke. He showed touch and feel for his changeup at 76-78 mph to the arm-side of the plate, killing spin in the process. Schnurbusch also threw a 73-74 mph slider that showed slight lateral break from a similar release point to his fastball."

Alex Bryan RHP / Francis Howell, MO / 2024

From 2/7/23: "...started our day off on a high note, working his entire arsenal around the zone with consistency. A wiry 6-foot, 155-pound athlete who threw a no-hitter at Creekside last summer, Bryan’s fastball played at 86-87 mph from a short, twitchy arm path. His heater jumped in the zone at times, showing ride (20 IVB) and run (12.2 HM) at peak. Bryan’s breaking ball flashed tight shape and late break in his ‘pen, playing at 72-74 mph, and he created natural arm-side action (16 in. HM) on a 78-79 mph changeup as well. Bryan’s physical projection, mound demeanor, and aptitude to pitch have him poised for a big spring on the bump for Francis Howell."

Cohen Waldren OF / Liberty, MO / 2024

From 2/16/23: "...put together an all-around explosive showing at this event. At 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, Waldren’s frame offers plenty of future projection, and the ease in which his arm works with on the mound suggests even more velocity is yet to come down the road. Waldren’s firmest bullet peaked at 89 mph, sitting in the mid-to-upper-80s throughout, and he spun a 68-71 mph curveball with gradual action to pair off it. Waldren’s arm strength translated to the outfield, where his 94 mph high paced the entire event in throwing velocity, regardless of position. He also ran the day’s fastest 30-yard dash at 3.86 seconds and reached an event-high peak run speed of 18.9 mph. Waldren’s a name-to-know uncommitted junior from the St. Louis area that’ll almost certainly rise up our rankings come the next update."

NEWCOMERS

Tristan Hunter RHP / Forsyth, MO / 2024

From 3/4/23: "...another name that really came away as a standout performer from this event. At 6-foot-2, 178-pounds with lean strength and physical projection left, Hunter’s moves down the mound well and doesn’t exert much effort as a result, holding 91-93 mph throughout his ‘pen with hard horizontal action at times. He threw a changeup with ‘out-pitch’ potential at 77-81 mph, killing spin and lift with 17+ inches of run on average. Still fully developing his slider, Hunter flashed advanced raw spin on it, reaching nearly 2500 RPM with almost 15 inches of horizontal at 77-80 mph. Hunter left this event with an arrow-up, and he’s a premier uncommitted junior arm in Missouri."

Landon Krohn RHP / Princeton R-V, MO / 2024

Eli Tritinger RHP / Parkway North, MO / 2024

From 2/23/23: "...led the event in max fastball velocity, topping at 87.6 mph, while holding 86-87 mph throughout. Tritinger flashed sweep on his slider, throwing it from a similar ¾ slot to his fastball at 75-77 mph, spinning at 2200+ RPM. He also limited both spin and lift on his changeup, creating 16+ inches of run on average at 78-79 mph from his fastball arm slot. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound uncommitted junior will be one to follow into the spring and summer in 2023."

Grant Smith LHP / Perryville, MO / 2024

From 2/1/23: "...really looks the part in a uniform at 6-foot-6, 210-pounds and oozes upside with plenty of room to add strength down the road. A left-handed hitter, Smith keeps his barrel through the zone with length to contact, flashing power to the pull-side with a fluid two hand finish. When on time, Smith got off some of the day’s best hacks, and it’s easy to see the upside he possesses within his left-handed barrel. He hopped on the mound later and generated projectable velocity from an easy, controlled operation."

Cameron Lee OF / Father Tolton Regional Catholic, MO / 2024

From 1/24/23: "...oozes projection attached to a lean, high-waisted frame with lanky limbs. Lee utilized his levers to whip deep batted balls off his barrel, elevating to the pull-side throughout BP. His highest exit velocity (93.6 mph) and furthest batted ball (321 ft.) were amongst the day’s highest marks. Those marks are likely to keep trending upward as Lee fills out his frame, too. Lee took reps on both the infield and outfield defensively, showing arm strength from the latter with an 85 mph high. He’s certainly one to watch for the reigning 3A state champions this spring."

Cole Schoen RHP / Springfield Catholic, MO / 2024

From 3/4/23: "...came away as a name-to-know arm on the mound, sitting at an easy 86-88 mph with his fastball and living in the zone from a high arm angle. He comfortably spun two breaking balls, a softer, more gradual curveball with higher shape, and a firm, tighter slider that worked more horizontally through the zone."

Jack Schoen RHP / Springfield Catholic, MO / 2024

From 3/4/23: "...swung it well, working flat to contact and on top of the baseball while averaging 88.9 mph per batted ball, topping at 93.1 mph. He also hopped on the mound and sat in the low-80s, bumping 84 on his hardest bullet, with three secondaries to pair, including a changeup that he threw for strikes."
