Missouri State Preseason ID: Preview

By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

On Sunday, January 22nd, the PBR Missouri staff will travel to Hammons Field, home of the Missouri State University baseball program and Springfield Cardinals, to host the inaugural Missouri State Preseason ID. This event, like all of our showcases, will serve as an opportunity for our staff to check in on players from this respective region of the state prior to the high school season commencing. All of our events serve as identifiers for future invite-only events as well, such as the Preseason All-State or PBR Future Games.

ROSTER PREVIEW

Though we’re familiar with a handful of names on this roster, there will be several players who are making their PBR debut on Sunday. We’re excited to see these new faces and add them to our expanding player database that spans across the state.

At first glance, however, there’s plenty of talent on this roster, starting with RHP/INF Evan Butler (Cassville). A top-50 prospect in the state’s 2025 class, Butler emerged a two-way winner from the Missouri Fall Underclass Games. He showed a loose, simple right-handed swing that consistently peppered line drives to the pull-side during his round of BP. Later, Butler hopped on the mound and pitched in the low-80s with his fastball while also spinning a 2500+ RPM slider off it.

C Braeden Barbee (Lee’s Summit West, 2024) was also in attendance at the Missouri Fall Games. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound compact sophomore swings a quick right-handed bat with some feel to work the other way and he’s accurate to the bag from the chute, too. 1B/RHP Matthew States (Father Tolton Catholic, 2025) impressed our staff across multiple looks in 2022 with bat strength attached to a 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. INF Gage Vanlandingham (Van Buren, 2025) was a winner from the St. Louis Open as a quality up-the-middle defender that works direct to the baseball with a simple line drive approach offensively. RHP Parker Lambeth (Kickapoo, 2023) is an uncommitted senior headed our way Sunday that we’ve heard positive things about, too.
