As the 2016 calendar year winds down, we will countdown the top twenty stories read in Missouri in 2016.  The Labor Day Baseball Festival at the University of Missouri come in at number twenty.

The Labor Day Baseball Festival was a 14 team tournament with Prep Baseball Report-Missouri covering the action.  The Scout Blog was full of times, velocities and videos from the two-day event.  Here is the re-post of the PBRPlus story from September 6, video has been excluded.

MidAmerica Tournaments held the Labor Day Baseball Tournament powered by Prep Baseball Report at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri on Saturday and Sunday.

Fourteen teams from around the region participated with each team getting at least three games. Pool standings and results can be found by, CLICKING HERE. Here are some notes from the weekend.

 

PITCHERS

Tyler Martin, LHP. Webb City (MO), 2018
Martin (Midwest Nationals), committed to Nebraska the day after his outing, worked 83-85 mph with fastball, three-quarters arm slot, late run, quick arm, aggressive in zone, downhill plane, breaking ball was 70-71 mph slider. Martin worked two innings allowing one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Trae Roberston, LHP, Hickman (MO), 2018
Robertson (Mac N Seitz) has a tall and lean frame with a loose arm action, over the top release, 81-84 mph with fastball, and threw mostly fastballs in his outing, striking out six batters in three innings, no walks and three hits

Blake Hearn, RHP, Olathe Northwest (KS), 2017
Hearn (Between the Lines) durable frame with a high three quarters release, worked 83-86 mph with fastball, showed a change up at 78 mph down in the zone, 11-to-5 breaking ball at 69-70 mph.

Austin Cheeley, RHP, Lutheran South (MO), 2017
Cheeley (St. Louis Prospects) worked 80-84 mph with his fastball and allowed on hit in four inning with four strikeouts and two walks,  challenged hitters, repeated release, body under control during delivery, 11-to-5 breaking ball, 73-72 mph, sharp action, works quick between pitches.

Michael Picollo, RHP, Blue Valley North (KS), 2018
Picollo (Building Champions) has a clean and loose arm action, frame and arm action suggest increased velo through development, throws strikes with three pitches, works both sides of plate, mixes location, fastball at 77-80 mph, 12-to-6 breaking ball at 67-68 mph, flashes sharpness. 

Scott Duensing, LHP, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Duesning (Mac N Seitz) threw his fastball at 73-75, high three quarters release, loose arm action, arm works, showed feel for breaking ball at 60-63 mph, sharp 2-to-8 shape, change up, 64-67 mph with sink, fastball arm speed, quick and deceptive pick off move.

Jack Riney, LHP, Lafayett (MO), 2017
Riney (St. Louis Prospects) worked 77-80 mph with his fastball, high three quarters release, throws with regular effort, threw mostly fastball working both sides of the plate, four strikeouts in first two innings of work. 

Position Players

Jack Brimacomb, SS, Blue Valley North (KS), 2018
Brimacomb (Mac N Seitz) has a projectable frame with athletic actions on the infield, at the plate, showed feel for the barrel going 1-for-3 a hard single to left and loud ground ball to third, double game one against the Nebraska Sluggers moves well on the infield with feet and hands working together.

Daniel Hammond, C, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Hammond (Mac N Seitz) went 2-for-4 against the Nationals with a double left and triple to right field.  He has simple and repeatable swing hitting in the third spot in the order, quick bat speed and showed the ability to stay on the ball after contact.

Bobby Rivera, SS, Blue Springs South (MO), 2018
Rivera (Black Sox) versatile player, played several positions during the weekend, impressed at shortstop with athleticism, showed a simple approach at the plate and plate discipline with a a pair of walks against the St. Louis Prospects.  Looks to be a top athlete in the 2018 class.

Easton Rindt, C/1B, Junction City (KS), 2018
Rindt (Topeka Stars) is a physical left-handed hitter, had contact to the right side of the field in three at-bats against Next Level.  Solid behind the plate, soft hands, moves well, pop times between innings at 2.20, hit in the four hole.

Syler Zirkle, RHP, 2B, Shawnee Heights (KS), 2017
Zirkle (Topeka Stars) was on base in all three at-bats against Next Level, collecting a single down the first base line, a single in the hole at shortstop, and a walk, showed feel for the barrel and ability to go with the pitch.  On the mound, Zirkle 77-80 mph with fastball, fanning two hitters in three innings of work, allowed one hit and one walk, locating fastball on both sides of plate.

Jackson Burrell, CF, Spring Hill (KS), 2018
Burrell (Building Champions) is an exceptional defender in centerfield, has the ability to have early reads off the bat and take efficient route to the ball, aggressive and plays hard, goes after ball over his head well.  Walked and singled in the hole at shortstop, lefty hitter with patience at the plate, clocked at 4.39 home-to-first on a ground-out to third. 

AJ Spinello, C, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Spinello (Building Champions) is a quick catch and throw catcher, clean transfer, hands and feet work together, accurate throws with pop times between innings at 2.07 and 2.08.

Reid Seacat, 1B, Olathe Northwest (KS), 2018
Seacat (Building Champions) showed a quick bat all weekend, power to the opposite field, doubled to center field against Nationals. 

Roland Ounanian, 3B/SS, Lindbergh (MO), 2017
Ounanian (St. Louis Prospects) was a tough all weekend, showed ability to use the whole field, doubled and singled to right field, loud outs to the pull side, loose hands at the plate, has bat control with level path.  

Carter Mize, OF, Fort Zumwalt West (MO), 2017
Mize (St. Louis Prospects) has a middle of the field approach, singled and doubled to left-center with 3 RBI against Black Sox, hit well in situations driving in another on a ground out against Nebraska Sluggers, shows ability to be a good contact hitter and spoil pitches.  In the outfield, moves well to the ball with good reads off the bat in center field.  On the mound, worked 78-80 mph with fastball. 

Connor Gilles, RHP/3B, Rockwood Summit (MO), 2017
Gilles (St. Louis Prospects) physical player with power at the plate, lefty hitter, tripled to center field twice over the weekend and added a double to right, most contact was middle-pull, short to contact, accelerated swing. On the mound, was up to 84 mph between innings, sat 80-81 mph, showed 12-to-6 breaking ball at 68 mph, threw strikes with a pair of strikeouts in last inning. 

Lawson McAteer, SS, CBC, 2017
McAteer (St. Louis Prospects) singled in each of the games, mostly middle to pull side contact, impressive on the infield with athletic actions, quick feet, plays through the ball with soft hands.

Ethan Judd, C, Mill Valley (KS), 2019
Judd (Between the Lines) has a small frame with projection, catches the ball well behind the late, keeps border line strikes in the zone, sits well and is a good target, soft hands, quick exchange with quick release, accurate, pop times between innings was 2.15 to 2.25.  At the plate, right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, hands work inside with short path to ball, singled through the right side.

Quinn Cherry, OF/C, Harrison (AR), 2017
Cherry (Midwest Nationals) strong build hitter in four-hole, loose hands with feel for the barrel, gap-to-gap approach with a pair of single through the hole on the left side, drove in a pair of runs in game against Mac N Seitz, loose over the top release in the outfield, aggressive to the ball.

Eli Wells, C, Glendale (MO), 2017
Wells (Midwest Nationals) strong-bodied with power at the plate, showed ability to go the other way with a triple to right and pull power with double to left-center, has a gap-to-gap approach with ability to stay on the ball after contact. 

Corey Lummis, RHP, Nixa (MO), 2017
Lummis (Midwest Nationals) worked 81-84 mph off the mound, high three quarters arm slot, throws down hill with late run to fastball, aggressive to the plate, throws with some effort, has command of fastball and repeats delivery, hands stay high during delivery working with in line stride, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, 68-69 mph, works quick between pitches.

Brilynn Stults, RHP/SS, Osawatamie (KS), 2019
Stults (Between the Lines) is a projectable player in the 2019 class with lean frame and athletic actions, room to put on muscle, quick feet in sync with hands, plays through the ball, picked up a pair of hits to center and left in game against Nebraska Prospects, 4.39 home-to-first, showed instinct on base paths, stolen base, right-handed hitter.

Casey Carstens, INF, Millard West (NE), 2019
Carstens (Nebraska Prospects), projectable right-handed hitter, hit third in the order, short path to contact, level though the zone, gap-to-gap approach, singled to left center and singled to right center in four at-bat against Between the Lines, scored and drove in a run.

Caleb Walker, 1B, Grain Valley (MO), 2018
Walker (PPA Prime) made an athletic diving play at first base to save a base hit against Between the Lines, hit in the lead off spot, has a knack of getting on base, singled up the middle with a pair of walks, scored three runs.

Wyatt Anderson, 1B/RHP, Tri-Center, 2019
Anderson (Nebraska Prospects) aggressive hitter in the third spot in the order, quick bat speed with middle to pull contact, single through the hole at shortstop, doubled down left-field line and solid contact fly out to center field, added stolen base, player to watch in 2019 class in Iowa.
