Missouri Underclass Games - Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Missouri held the Missouri Underclass Games on June 11 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.  Over 65 players from the region attended in the 2022 and 2021 class.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a 
ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the catchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order.


Catchers

Cole Arndorfer C / 1B / Grain Valley, MO / 2021

Arndorfer is a stocky 5-foot-10, 175-pound, right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 recruiting class. He ran a 7.78 second 60 and a 4.88 home-to-first. At the plate, 76 mph exit velocity, starts in an athletic stance, in line stride, some rhythm with hands, level bat path, remains balanced throughout swing, works inside the baseball, showed hard line drive contact with a gap-to-gap approach during round. Defensively, balanced set up, smooth actions, clean transfers, short arm action, over the top release, positional velo of 67 mph, pop times between 2.21 and 2.50 seconds, mostly accurate throws.

Ryan Carolan C / RHP / St. John Vianney, MO / 2021

Carolan is a lean framed 5-foot-11, 165-pound, right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class out of St. John Vianney HS. At the event, he ran a 6.96 second 60 and a 4.66 home-to-first. At the plate, exit velocity of 85 mph, starts in a taller and upright position,  in line stride, leverages front side, level bat path, showed hard contact during round. Behind the plate, starts in a more narrow stance, momentum towards second base, short arm action, over the top release, pop times between 2.03 and 2.25 seconds, positional velo of 71 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Benjamin Davis C / 1B / De Smet Jesuit , MO / 2021

Davis is a lean 6-foot-1, 170-pound, right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class out of De Smet HS in St. Louis. At the event, he ran a 7.64 second 60, and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, Davis starts with an upright and narrow stance, leg lift, quiet hands, in line stride, leverages front side, remains balanced throughout swing, sprayed ball to all fields during round. Defensively, athletic stance, fluid footwork, soft hands, clean transfers, short arm, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, pop times between 2.14 to 2.41 seconds, positional velo of 72 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Luc Fuller / Westminster, MO / 2021

Fuller is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound, right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.56 second 60 and 4.88 home-to-first. At the plate, 83 mph exit velocity, starts in a wider stance, quiet load, toe tap, level bat path, remains balanced throughout swing, showed hard line drives and ground balls to center and left field during round. Defensively, starts balanced, quick feet, quick transfer to throw, quick loose arm action, arm works, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 69 mph, pop times between 2.09 and 2.31 seconds, accurate throws.

Ian Funk C / 1B / Eureka, MO / 2022

Funk is a 5-foot-10, 145-pound, switch hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, he ran a 7.87 second 60 and a 4.74 home-to-first. During batting practice, from the left side starts with an open stance and low position with hands, short and in line stride, works uphill with swing, remains balanced throughout, from the right side Funk has an athletic stance, quiet load, in line stride, uphill bat patch, sprayed the ball to all fields during round. Defensively, athletic set up, clean transfers, fluid footwork, clean arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 70 mph, pop times between 2.13-2.31 seconds, mostly accurate throws.

Carter Jensen C / 1B / Park Hill , MO / 2021

Jensen is a strong and physical 6-foot-1, 215-pound, left-handed hitting catcher and corner infielder in Missouri’s 2021 class, Louisiana State commit. At the event, he ran a home-to-first time of 5.01 seconds and posted an exit velocity of 94 mph. At the plate, shows quick bat speed, efficient weight shift into load position, aggressive with lower half, level bat path, remains balanced during swing, produced hard pull contact during round with pop. Defensively, soft hands, quick lateral movements, gains ground to 2B on throws, clean transfers, short and quick arm action, pop times between 1.91 – 2.00 seconds, strong arm with carry to throws, positional velocity of 78 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Tristan Meny C / 3B / Battle, MO / 2021

Meny is a tall and lanky 6-foot-2, 170-pound, left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class from Battle HS. He ran an 8.56 second 60 and a 5.21 home-to-first. At the plate, 82 mph exit velocity, starts in a tall and narrow stance, abbreviated leg lift, in line stride, leverages front side, aggressive lower half, contact primarily to the middle of the field during batting practice with some pop. Behind the plate, narrow stance, clean transfers, loose arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 67 mph, pop times between 2.20-2.26 seconds with throws made around the base.

Aaron Moss SS / C / Lindbergh , MO / 2021

Moss is a slender framed and wirey right-handed hitting catcher and middle infielder at 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds. He shows good footspeed as he ran a 7.12 second 60 and a 4.16 home-to-first. At the plate, athletic stance, rhythmic actions prior to swing, smaller leg lift, quick hands, showed control of the barrel, leverages front side, showed primarily fly ball contact during round with above average pop. Behind the plate, good actions, quick twitch movements, quick transfer to throw, loose arm action with carry on throws, positional velo of 79 mph, pop times between 1.92-2.05 seconds, mostly accurate throws.

TJ Racherbaumer C / 3B / Hermann , MO / 2021

Racherbaumer is a strong and physical 5-foot-9, 190-pound, left-handed hitting catcher out of Hermann HS. At the event, he ran a 8.09 second 60 and 4.95 second home-to-first. At the plate, Racherbaumer starts open, slight leg lift, quiet hands, works to get arms extended, minimal head movement, showed hard fly ball contact to right field during round with above average pop. Behind the plate, quick actions, clean transfers, strong arm with carry, over the top release, positional velo of 76 mph at the event, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 1.92-2.12 seconds.

Tyler Stine C / RHP / Hickman, MO / 2022

Stine is an athletic 5-foot-9, 160-pound, right-handed hitting catcher and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event, he ran a 7.47 second 60 and a 4.73 home-to-first. During batting practice, starts tall and upright, leg lift, short and in line stride, leverages front side, quiet hands, flat bat path, ball jumps off the barrel, showed primarily line drive contact to center and left field. Behind the plate, athletic actions, no wasted movement, quick feet, loose arm action, high-three quarter release, positional velo of 72 mph, pop times between 2.01-2.15 seconds, very accurate throws.

Auggie Viles C / Rockhurst, MO / 2021

Viles has a bigger frame and a solid build at 6-foot, 205 pounds and is a switch hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the plate, swung from the left side only, 85 mph exit velocity, quiet load, in line stride, works to get arms extended, remains balanced throughout swing, produced hard line drives and groundballs during round, showed the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Behind the plate, balanced set up, quick lateral movements for size, aggressive lower half, clean transfers, short arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velo of  75 mph, pop times between 2.20 – 2.26 seconds.
