Missouri Underclass Games: Middle Infielders Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the Missouri Underclass Games at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg on June 12.  Over seventy players attended in the 2020-2021 class. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the middle infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The middle infield group had eight players in the 2021 class and eleven players in the 2020 class.  Five players ran a 7.15 60 or better, with two under 7.00.  Eleven players had an 85 mph exit velocity or better with three over 90 mph. One player was committed shortly after the event.

Middle Infielders

Drew Baughman SS / 2B / CBC, MO / 2021

Baughman is a compact 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and a 4.57 home to first. He has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, weight shift to back side with controlled leg lift, minimal hand movement, quick bat with level plane, body stays under control, consistent line drive gap to gap during hitting evals.  On the infield, high three quarters arms slot, quick and athletic movements, clean exchange on time with footwork, works through the ball gains ground to thorw, mostly accurate throws.

Carter Bither SS / 2B / Springfield Catholic , MO / 2020

Bither is a long and lean 6-foot-2 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He has ran a 7.01 60 and a 4.19 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open toe tap to load, short in line stride, hands work inside the ball, gap to gap line drives, loose hands.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action quick exchange, fluid actions in footwork and glove, plays through the ball, 85 mph positional velocity, projection in build and arm action.

Tyler Gilmore SS / 2B / Parkway West , MO / 2020

Gilmore is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.69 60 and a 4.56 home first.  He has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, works into back side with no wasted movement in hands, simple and repeatable, level swing path, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, gains ground after the catch, fluid exchange with fluid footwork to the ball, high three quarters arm slot, mostly accurate throws, 76 mph positional velocity.

Dawson Hanner 2B / LHP / Poplar Bluff , MO / 2020

Hanner is a 5-foot-9 150-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.59 60 and a 4.60 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, aggressive swing, short to contact, mostly middle to opposite field contact during hitting evals.  On the infield, quick catch and throw, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball, clean exchange, accurate throws, 73 mph positional velocity.

Hunter Hiett C / 1B / Cape Girardeau Central, MO / 2020

Hiett is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.11 60 and a 4.71 home to first.  He has a 95 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, starts slightly open in stance, smooth load into back leg with weight shift, fluid acceleration with hands, has power to pull gap, loose bat whip with quick bat speed.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velocity, field the ball in athletic positoin, fluid footwork to the ball, clean transfer with momentum through the catch with footworks, long arm circle, mostly accurate throws, fluid actions.

Cade Hohl SS / 2B / SLUH, MO / 2020

Hohl is a strong 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.28 60 and a 4.60 home to first.  He has n 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, slightly closed with stride, quick hands generate bat whip, feel for the barrel, gap to gap line drives with power to the pull gap, consistent hard contact.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, athletic actions with soft hands, quick to the ball with footwork, feet create momentum to throw, accurate throws.

Dylan Hufft SS / 2B / Park Hill South, MO / 2021

Hufft is an athletic 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and a 4.34 home to first.  He has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall set up, hands walk away from in line stride, repeats swing with feel for the barrel, mostly line drives gap to gap during hitting evals, flashes pull side power, some lift to swing path, stay on ball after contact.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, arm works, controlled and fluid footwork to to the ball, on time with exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Konner Hutchings SS / 3B / Liberty-Wentzville, MO / 2021

Hutchings is a well built 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.13 60 and a 4.50 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth load with some hand load, in line stride, hand control the bat head, generates bat whip, hits with leverage in lower half, middle to pull side power.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, quick the ball with feet, quick catch and throw, athletic, accurate throws, some with carry, 80 mph positional velocity.

Jake Markert SS / OF / Ft. Zumwalt South, MO / 2021

Markert is a 5-foot-9 150-pound switch hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open stance, holding hands low, in line stride with hands walking away from stride, aggressive and level swing path, mostly middle of the field contact.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, long take away, quick to the ball with footwork, body stays under control, accurate throws, clean exchange, quick actions.

Aaron Moss C / SS / Lindbergh , MO / 2021

Moss is an athletic 5-foot-10 140-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.32 60 and a 4.75 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velocity. Behind the plate, open stance with smooth pre-pitch rhythm, in line stride, quick and loose hands with level bat path, feel for the barrel, swing produced consistent and hard line drives gap to gap. On the infield, 85 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arms lot, long arm circle, quick actions in feet and exchange, works through the ball with momentum to throw, athletic with projection in build and arm action.

Spencer Nivens SS / 2B / Rock Bridge, MO / 2020

Nivens is an athletic 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.29 home to first and a 6.69 60.  He has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, hits with leverage in lower half, starts from an open stance, controlled leg lift, minimal hand load, feel for the barrel, quick and loose hands, range in swing with gap to gap ability, power to pull gap,  On the infield, under control, over the top arm slot, quick feet to the ball, quick catch and throw, athletic actions, accurate throws with carry, 79 mph positional velocity.

Anthony Ramirez SS / 2B / Lees Summit West, MO / 2020

Ramirez is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.90 60 and a 4.95 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth load, level path, slightly closed stride, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, over the top arm slot, clean exchange on time with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, 74 mph positional velocity.

Teague Robertson RHP / SS / Hickman , MO / 2020

Robertson is a long and lean 6-foot-2 168-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 4.63 home to first.  He has an 86 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load to back side, toe tap, level and controlled swing, body stays under control, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, aggressive tot he ball with footwork, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws, arm works from high three quarters arms lot, throws have carry to the bag, projection in build and arm action.

Bryce Ruiz 2B / RHP / Francis Howell North, MO / 2020

Ruiz is an athletically built 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.55 60 and a 4.98 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth shift to back side, toe tap to stride, level path, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, high three quarters arms action, soft hands, clean exchange, momentum with feet to throw after the catch, mostly accurate throws, 73 mph positional velocity.

Luke Smith SS / 2B / Parkway South, MO / 2021

Smith is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.80 60 and 4.91 home to first.  He has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, smooth load to back side, short in line stride, hands control the barrel, shows power to pull side, quick and level bat speed.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, fields ball in athletic position, clean exchange, aggressive to the ball, mostly accurate throws, footwork creates momentum to throw. 

Devin Ward OF / 2B / Vianney , MO / 2020

Ward is an athletic 5-foot-11 195-pound left handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 6.94 60 and a 4.31 home to first.  He has an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, quick toe tap to in line stride, minimal hand load, quick bat speed, flashed power to pull gap, good barrel awareness, gap to gap approach, quick hands. On the infield, 82 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, athletic and controlled actions, clean exchange, soft hands, feet and hands in sync with exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Taylor Warren SS / RHP / Blue Springs , MO / 2021

Warren is a 5-foot-7 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.64 60 and a 4.77 home to first.  He has an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load to back side, slight lift to bat path, hits with leverage in back side, showed pull side power, loose hands, quick bat speed, smooth pre pitch rhythm.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, feet create momentum to throw after catch, fields ball in athletic position, fluid footwork to the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Bryce Wear RHP / SS / Fox , MO / 2020

Wear is a 6-foot 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.94 60 and a 5.16 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, no wasted moment with hands, minimal load, controlled leg lift, in line stride, smooth acceleration with bat speed, level through the zone, stays on ball after contact, gap to gap line drives.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball with footwork, quick transfer and throw, soft hands, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Mason Whiteside 2B / OF / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2021

Whiteside, a Michigan commit, is a strong 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.45 60 and a 4.57 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, holds hand high with smooth pre pitch rhythm, leg kick, aggressive swing, body stays controlled, mostly gap to gap line drives, power to pull side, hands work inside the ball, good barrel control.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, clean transfer with aggressive footwork, mostly accurate throws.
