Player Spotlight: 3B/1B Tanner Cantrell (Houston, 2015)

It has been almost a year since 3B/1B Tanner Cantrell (Houston, 2015) suffered a blood clot to his right leg and had a big spring, hitting .591 with four home runs and 32 RBI.  He earned 1st Team All-State awards as an infielder in Missouri Class 3 for his efforts in 2014.  

Last summer, Cantrell played for the Midwest Nationals 18U Blue and recently attended the Class of 2015 Prospect Game on August 17.  At the PBR showcase, Cantrell had a good round of batting practice showing a repeatable swing with pull power.  He had an 86 MPH exit velo and a positional velo of 76 at first base.

Here is a look at what Cantrell has going on.  

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Cantrell: Jeffco, Missouri State, Mizzou, and SBU

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?  

Cantrell: I visited Mizzou and Missouri State back in the spring.  

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Cantrell: I don't have my heart set on any one school, I am keeping all my options open.  Just looking for a school with a strong baseball program that I can fit into.  As well as a good academic program.  

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your statistics at Houston High Schoo? And how did your team do? 

Cantrell: I had a great Junior year in Houston.  I hit .591 breaking the batting average record at the high school with 4 home runs and 32 RBIs.  Only striking out twice in 66 at bats.  I was first team all state infield.
As well as first team all conference and first team all district.  I played third base for my high school team. We ended up 10-10 and lost in our first round of districts.  

What are you goals for your senior season?

Cantrell: My goal for my senior year at Houston is to break my own record batting average wise and hit over 600.  And prepare for college be committed to the school I am going to attend and work hard in the off season to prepare myself.  

PBR: What travel team do I play for?  And do I play fall ball? 

Cantrell: I play for the Midwest National 18u Blue.  I will also play fall ball with the Nationals.  We don't have a fall schedule yet.  

PBR: Do I play any other sports? 

Cantrell: No I only play baseball.  In the off season I currently do crossfit 3 days a week and run with a track coach the other 2 days along with my baseball workouts.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA? 

Cantrell: My  GPA is 3.5 and ACT is 18 I am taking the ACT again in Sept and studying to get it up and taking a prep course this semester at school.  I will take it everytime it's given this year.
