Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Jared Robbins (Rockhurst, 2015) is an athletic 6-foot-0, 170-pound right-handed pitcher/outfielder. On the mound during the Class of 2015 Prospect Games in August, he showed an over-the-top delivery and quick arm speed. Jared throws with easy effort and keeps his shoulders level through his delivery. Robbins had a fastball velocity range of 83-87 MPH. His curveball was at 63-66 MPH with 12/6 shape and late/sharp break. Jared also displayed a change-up that ranged from 74-77 with near fastball arm speed. He tallied 2 strikeouts during his outing in the game.

At the plate, he posted a home-to-first time of 4.35, with an exit velo of 86 MPH. Robbins has an athletic setup and his lower half well to maintain a level bat path. He has a gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, Robbins throws from an over-the-top arm slot and makes mostly accurate throws. His position velo was 86 MPH and he displayed quick fluid feet and a clean exchange.

Robbins is currently taking visits to area colleges after being seeing touch 88 MPH on the mound this fall.  Recently, Robbins gave us a look at his recruiting process.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Robbins: Rockhurst University, University of Central Missouri, Johnson County Community College, Jefferson College, Missouri Western, and KCKCC.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recent.

Robbins: I plan on visiting Johnson County CC, Jefferson College, and UCM.  I am hoping to visit as many schools as have interest in me as well.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school.

Robbins: I plan on majoring in Engineering and Business.  I am looking for a school where I can compete for a spot on the baseball team and help them win, experience college life, and get a good education.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Robbins: I played mostly junior varsity.   I started off slow in hitting and ended up around .300.  I hit .483 in my last 72 at bats this summer.  My pitching was good and my last 11 innings I did not allow any runs.   I plan on competing for a starting pitching spot and playing outfield my senior year.

PBR: What are your goals for your senior seasons at Rockhurst? Name some players that will play a key role for Rockhurst next spring?

Robbins: My goal is to be one of the starters as both a pitcher and outfielder.  I think we will have a good team.  Some key players this year will be Tyler Benninghoff, John Wemhoff, Ben Whetstone, and Luke Ritter

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team

Robbins: I play for the Kansas City Bullets and am playing with them this fall as both a pitcher and outfielder.  My coaches, Dale Reed and Conner Dawson have really helped my hitting progress and my pitching velocity has increased by 4-5 mph since joining the Bullets.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Robbins: I used to play basketball and run track but now focus on baseball.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA

Robbins: My current ACT is a 25 and my GPA is a 3.3.  I just took the ACT two weeks ago and hope to raise my score to the high 20’s.
