Player Spotlight: RHP Mason Hunter (Battle, 2017)

Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Mason Hunter (Battle, 2017) posted the top pitcher's velo at the Top Unsigned Prospect Showcase on Oct. 30 in Wichita.

Hunter worked 87-90 with his fastball, after coming back from injury that sidelined him from taking the mound last spring.  He showed a tight spinning 11-to-5 breaking ball at 76-78 mph.  His change-up was 79-82 mph.  Although still working on command, Hunter looked strong in his bullpen session.

Here is a look inside the recruitment of Hunter Mason.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Hunter: I am most interested in an engineering program but I will entertain other schools as pre-engineering.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Hunter: I go to Battle High School in Columbia MO.  Our record in 2016 was 15-12.  I was released at the end of the season to get a few at bats.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Hunter: My plan for my senior year is to work with my pitching coach as I return to full potential from surgery. I am going to spend my winter workouts concentrating on my core and strength and looking forward to mound time this Spring. I also am going to continue to study and to keep my GPA up.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Hunter: The last 3 years, I have played for Team Missouri Baseball (Retro Baseball) from St. Louis. I was on the National team. I played for Tribe this fall that is a local team so I could get some first appearances against batter since my surgery.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Hunter: No.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Hunter: I have an ACT score of 21 composite and a 3.9 GPA
