Q&A with Arkansas Commit SS Nolan Wosman (Palmyra, 2019)

Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Nolan Wosman (Palmyra, 2019) has committed to play at the University of Arkansas at the end of his high school career.

Wosman is a 6-foot-2 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, Wosman has a gap-to-gap approach with pull side power.  He has quick hands and quick bat speed. His swing is level though the zone and starts from a balanced set up.

On the infield, he is aggressive through the ball,  with momentum though the catch.  He has a high three quarters release, and makes accurate throws with carry at 83 mph.

In June, Wosman attended the Underclass Games in Columbia and announced his commitment in August.  Here is a look inside the recruiting process for Nolan Wosman.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?  Was it as expected?  Easy/Difficult?

Wosman: I honestly expected the recruiting process to be easier than it was.  Once I figured out the Division I recruiting rules, like coaches not being able to contact me directly yet, etc., it became easier to understand.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Wosman: Distance from home didn’t really play a part in my decision.  I just wanted to go somewhere where I felt comfortable and confident.  I am happy with my choice of the University of Arkansas.

PBR: Where did Arkansas first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Wosman: Arkansas coaches first saw me play at the Perfect Game World Series tournament in Atlanta, GA.  After the tournament, we spoke on the phone and I was invited to campus for a visit/tour.  I continue to talk with the coaches on the phone regularly.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?

Wosman: I feel the best player I have faced would be Tyler Fogarty.  Although we are on the same St. Louis Pirates team in the summer, I’ve faced him at practice and during scrimmages.  He always gives his all, and makes those around him better players.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Wosman: I always tell younger players to work hard and to never give up.  I tell them the most important thing is to always have fun playing baseball, because the moment the game isn’t fun to you anymore, it becomes a job.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Wosman: In addition to playing fall ball and winter workouts with my St. Louis Pirates team, I stay active in the offseason playing basketball for our high school varsity team.  I also participate in XCEL Performance’s Sports Enhancement Program to address any weaknesses I may have so that I can perform at my best on the field.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Wosman: A couple of years back, I hit three homeruns in one game, earned four RBI’s, and we won the game 4-3.  That’s a night that I won’t forget for a long time!

PBR: What do you like most about Arkansas and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Wosman: Obviously, Arkansas has outstanding facilities – which make me very excited about playing there.  But, I really based my decision on the coaching staff.  They have made me feel welcome, and like I am already a part of their team!

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Wosman: I visited quite a few campuses over this past summer.  The ones that stuck out to me, in addition to Arkansas, were Wichita State, Indiana University, Missouri State and Mizzou.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Was there a particular game or event that you feel turned the corner for you?

Wosman: I played in two different Perfect Game World Series tournaments in Atlanta, GA this past summer.  Both of those tournaments were filled with college coaches, and I feel they really increased my exposure.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us.  How do you feel your team will be?  What are your expectations and goals?

Wosman: Our high school team graduated five seniors last year, but I think we still have a lot of talent on the field to work with.  Once we get the gaps filled that were left by the seniors, I don’t think we’ll have many problems.  I’m excited to see what we can do.  We’ve won our district championship title the last four years, so hopefully that streak will continue.

PBR: Where do you play in the summer?  And what has been your most memorable experience with them?

Wosman: I play for the St. Louis Pirates organization.  What I’ve loved most about my experience is getting to know the different players.  I’ve made friendships that will last with these guys, and love watching everyone commit to different colleges.
