PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Chick: Yes, I wanted to get away from home.  I am looking forward to the opportunity of being on my own.  5 hours was about as far away as I wanted to go.  My parents still want to be able to see me play.

Where did Nebraska first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Chick: Coach Silva saw me at the area code game tryouts.  He made contact with my prodigy team coach.   I called Coach Silva a few times and I really liked his enthusiasm on the phone.  We set up a visit and I fell in love with Nebraska.  Once I got to know Coach Erstad I knew Nebraska was where I wanted to go!

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?

Chick: James Perry and Roderick Criss - my team mates on prodigy.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Chick: When everyone else is hanging out with friends and having fun - you have to compromise and be dedicated to working out in the cage - every day!

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Chick: I train at Columbia Strength and Conditioning Factory,  I hit every day in the cage and play football to stay in shape.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Chick: Spending the week in Cooperstown and hitting a grand slam.

PBR: What do you like most about Nebraska and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Chick: I liked their life skills program that prepares you for life after baseball.  I loved all the coaches and they have outstanding facilities.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Chick: K State, Missouri State, Missouri and Arkansas

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Was there a particular game or event that you feel turned the corner for you?

Chick: I went to a showcase at ASU in the fall of my sophomore year and they projected me to be a D1 catcher.  I went to a showcase at K-State and they offered me my first scholarship.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be? What are your expectations and goals?

Chick: We should be pretty good this year.  Hopefully we can do better than last year’s win-loss record (22-10) and hope to compete for a district title.

PBR: Where do you play in the summer? And what has been your most memorable experience with them?

Chick: I play for KC prodigy ran by Michael Younghanz and coached by Cameron Bentley.  My most memorable experience was winning the 15u national championship at TCU.
