STL Bandit Scout Day: Outfielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report- Missouri held the St. Louis Bandits Scout Day on June 5 at Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Missouri. Over seventy players from the 2022 to 2019 classes attended.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Here is a closer look at the Infielders from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Outfielders

Parker Davis OF / RHP / Fort Zumwalt East, MO / 2022 Davis is a 5-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event he ran a 7.97 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84mph. At the plate, wide athletic set up, minimal head movement, medium leg-kick initiates swing, quiet hands work inside the ball, showed solid barrel awareness generating hard line-drive contact, excellent extension after contact, balanced finish. In the outfield, attacks well through the baseball, clean transfers, over the top release, long arm action, 76mph positional velocity, accurate throws with carry through cutoff.

Max Jellinek OF / 2B / Fort Zumwalt South, MO / 2020 Jellinek is a 5-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event ran a 7.26 60 and posted an exit velocity of 81mph. During batting practice, tall narrow set up, loose hands, high leg kick load, very quick hands, solid barrel awareness producing hard line drive contact, great extension after contact and balanced finish. In the outfield, 82mph positional velocity, athletic movements, attacks the ball and plays through the catch well with momentum, long arm action, over the top release, accurate throws.

Blake Johnson OF / Francis Howell, MO / 2021 Johnson is a 5-10, 140-pound right handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event ran a 7.45 60 and posted a 74mph exit velocity. During batting practice, narrow open stance, minimal head movement, loads hands back into slot, works well inside the baseball, up the middle approach with solid line-drive contact, balanced finish. In the outfield, quick feet, clean transfers, long arm action with high three-quarter release, very accurate throws, positional velocity of 67mph.

Jared Kuchta OF / 1B / Fort Zumwalt East, MO / 2020 Kuchta is a 6-1, 190-pound right handed hitting outfield/first baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event ran a 7.44 60 and posted an exit velocity of 85mph. At the plate, athletic crouched stance, slight leg kick load, minimal head movement, generates impressive bat speed rotating around back side. In the outfield, moves well for size, clean hands with deliberate transfers, gains momentum through the baseball towards target, short arm action with over the top release, positional velocity of 74mph.

Tristan Laning OF / RHP / Orchard Farm, MO / 2021 Laning is a 5-7, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri's 2021 class. At the event, Lanning ran a 7.76 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide athletic stance, rocking load with slight leg kick, sets hands early, line-drive approach, solid barrel awareness generating hard contact to pull side, balanced extension after contact. In the outfield, moves athletically in approach, reliable hands, short arm action with high over the top release, positional velocity of 72mph.

Trevor Lovall 1B / RHP / Wentzille Holt, MO / 2023 Lovall is a 6-foot, 166-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Missouri’s 2023 class. At the event, he ran a 7.62 60 and posted an 82mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide-athletic set up, small leg-kick load, engages back side well, compact swing with solid barrel-awareness, up the middle approach producing hard line drive contact, balanced finish. In the outfield, fluid actions to the ball with smooth transfer, feet create momentum through the catch, high three quarters arm slot, long and lean frame, mostly accurate throws, 70 mph positional velocity.

Scott McCartney LHP / OF / Troy Buchanan, MO / 2022 Mccartney is a 5-foot-10 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2022 class.  He ran a 7.30 60 and a 4.50 home to first, 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, hands load with reverse toe tap, smooth acceleration to the ball, loose hands with level path, middle to pull side line drives.  In the outfield, athletic to the ball with active feet, works behind and through the catch, small crow hop during transfer, high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, 83 mph positional velocity.

Cameron Peters OF / LHP / St. Dominic , MO / 2020 Peters is a 5-11, 175-pound switch hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event he ran a 7.89 60 and posted an exit velocity of 83mph. At the plate, wide athletic base, rocking leg kick load, sets hands well in hitting slot, engages back side, line drive approach, solid barrel awareness generating hard contact. In the outfield, aggressive approach to the ball, slightly shortened arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velocity of 80mph, above-average accuracy on throws to third.

Kyle Prater OF / 2B / Fort Zumwalt East , MO / 2022 Prater is a 5-5, 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2022 class. At the event ran a 7.88 60 and posted an exit velocity of 77mph. During batting practice, loose hands, rocking leg-kick load, very-quick hands, slightly uphill bat path, solid barrel awareness generating spots of hard contact. In the outfield, athletic approach, aggressive through the baseball, high three-quarter release, quick arm action, somewhat accurate throws.

Jack Reynolds OF / 2B / Fort Zumwalt South , MO / 2021 Reynolds is a 5-10, 160-pound right handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event ran a 7.65 60 and posted a 78mph exit velocity. At the plate, loose hands, wide base stance, high kick load, keeps hands well inside baseball, generated hard contact to pull-side, solid barrel awareness, long extension after contact. In the outfield, deliberate and efficient in approach, generates momentum toward target, long arm action with three-quarter release, somewhat accurate throws, positional velocity of 70mph.

Brady Stephan SS / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West , MO / 2020 Stephan is a 6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class. At the event he ran a 7.26 60 and posted 85mph exit velo. During batting practice, narrow stance, simple leg-kick, sets hands back, aggressive through hitting zone, showed barrel control with hard contact to pull-side gap, excellent extension after contact, balanced finish. In the outfield, quick arm speed, over the top arm slot, aggressive through the ball with momentum from footwork, clean exchanges, throws have carry, mostly accurate, 83 mph positional velocity.

Cody Rust OF / 2B / Fort Zumwalt East, MO / 2023 Rust is a 5-8, 150-pound right handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2023 class. At the event ran a 7.70 60 and posted an exit velocity of 73mph. At the plate, upright stance, loose hands, toe-tap load, quick hands through hitting zone, level bat path. In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, smooth catch and transfer, plays through the ball, mostly accurate throws, 62 mph positional velocity.
