By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

On Tuesday, June 13th, the PBR Missouri and Illinois staffs will converge on the campus of Saint Louis University to host the annual St. Louis Open. This event is open to all 2024-to-2027 graduates and, like all PBR events, serve as identifiers for future invite-only events, such as our Top Prospect Games and the PBR Future Games.

ROSTER PREVIEW

Similarly to year’s past, this roster is shaping up nicely, and there’s some talented names from both states headed our way next Tuesday.

C Gavin Bradley (Eureka, 2024; MO) is an uncommitted junior backstop that had a strong season for a top-ranked Wildcats’ team this spring, batting .402 with a .524 on-base percentage and a team-high 32 RBIs. RHP Cale Berkbuegler (Kirkwood, 2024; MO) served as an anchor for the Pioneers’ staff this spring, hurling 32 innings, and he’s set to make his PBR debut next week.

Another uncommitted junior that’ll be at this event is INF Jake Stedman (Belleville West, 2024; IL). Stedman’s shown well at previous events, like the Illinois State Games and the St. Louis Preseason ID, and he parlayed that success into the high school season, where he batted .356 with seven doubles for the Maroons this spring.

From Illinois, OF/1B Hayden Bernreuter (Wesclin) and OF Greyson Rathgeb (Edwardsville) are two 2025s to know on this event’s roster. Bernreuter is coming off an explosive offensive season for the Warriors, where he slashed .440/.558/.800 with 19 extra-base hits from a fast, fluid, and loud left-handed swing. Rathgeb, who’s still playing for Edwardsville in the state playoffs, is an upside 6-foot-1, 175-pound athlete with a projectable right-handed swing and he’s an advanced defender in center field with a lively arm to pair.

Three more Illinois’ arms to highlight are RHP Jack Roessler (Waterloo, 2024), LHP Nathan Matoush (Hillsboro, 2025), and RHP Jackson Connoyer (Quincy Notre Dame, 2026). Roessler is a physical 6-foot-3, 200-pound athlete that punched out 45 batters in 40 innings on the hill for Waterloo this spring, pitching to a 2.63 ERA. Matoush intrigued at the Preseason All-State this winter, and the 6-foot-2, 190-pound southpaw pitches in the low-80s with his fastball while spinning a breaking ball for strikes. Connoyer is a fluid, loose-bodied athlete that tossed 20+ innings for a top-ranked QND squad this spring, and he’s also a follow as a position player, bouncing around confidently at shortstop in our live looks, too.
