Stock Report: Class of 2016 SS Chris Cornelius (Vianney)

Freshman Chris Cornelius earned the starting short stop position on a Vianney team that is loaded with seniors, and had held his own this season hitting .276 with four doubles and four RBIs. Looking beyond the batting average, Cornelius has shown ability to consistently put the ball in play and advance runners, as well as be a solid presence up the middle of the field. His biggest game of the season so far was in an upset win over CBC where Cornelius had an RBI double to increase thier lead, and came around to score after a single a few innings later.

In two showcases, Cornelius shows advanced actions in the field and at the plate for a player of his age. At third base, the 5-foot-9, 160-pound Cornelius showed quick footwork to the ball, with smooth and quick hands while delivering accurate throws across the field. At the plate, Cornelius has a balanced stance with a smooth load, good rhythm, and balance throughout his swing. His strong lower half and loose hands helped generate bat speed trough the zone, driving the ball gap to gap. Cornelius has potential to be a top level Class of 2016 player as he continues to progress.
