Scouting Report

Schmidt was in the low 90's at the Midwest Scout Assoc. workout in August.  His fastball had late life with some running action, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape with sharp action and late depth.  Schmidt will show a cutter and change up shows improvement and will be a solid third pitch in his arsenal.

8/4/16 - Schmidt had Team Missouri’s top infield velo at 87 mph and had a 91 mph exit velo.  Schmidt singled thorugh the hole at SS and scored against Team Select. He ran a 7.62 60.  On the mound, Schmidt works downhill with late running action on fastball that worked 81-85, touching 86 mph.  Breaking ball was sharp at times, 11-to-5 action, 74-77 mph.  Change up at 76.

6/14/16 - Schmidt is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop and pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.48 60 and 4.96 home-to-first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, short path to contact, hands work inside the ball, repeats swing, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, over the top release, momentum through the catch, fluid footwork with clean exchanges, mostly accurate throws, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event. On the mound, Schmidt high three-quarters arm slot, throws with some effort, arm works, repeats delivery, in line stride, creates direction and momentum towards the plate, fastball at 83-87 mph, some with run, sharp and late breaking 71-72 mph breaking ball, same plane as fastball, good pitch, change up at 80 mph, arm side release,

1/31/16 - Schmidt is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Holt HS.  Schmidt worked 82-84 mph with is fastball, one of the top velos for the event, curveball at 67-70 mph, sharp 11-to-5 action, change up at 73-75 mph, slight sink, near fastball arm speed. Schmidt throws with regular effort, loose arm action, and a simple repeatable delivery.  He throws three pitches for a strike and will be a pitcher to follow in the 2018 class. He ran a 7.76 60 and had an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, controlled front foot, slight dive with stride foot, loose hands, pull power, short to contact, stays on ball through extension, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, athletic actions, quick transfer and throw, 81 mph positional velo,  one of top velos for the event, fluid footwork, momentum towards 1B to throw, mostly accurate throws.

6/16/15 - Schmidt is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hand hitting shortstop. He ran a 60 time of 7.70. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Nicholas has fluid footwork, good hands, and a clean exchange. His position velo was 77 mph. At the plate, Schmidt has an open setup with a smooth load. He has a level swing that produces line drives, middle-to-pull side. Nicholas has a projectable frame with plus power potential. His exit velo was 82 mph. Schmidt posted a max fastball velo of 80 mph. Schmidt has a high 3/4 release, quick/loose arm action, throws with regular effort, and has smooth rhythm.  He stays in line towards the target, lands square, and has an athletic finish.  He worked at 78-80 mph with his fastball. He has a 11-to-5 curveball, late/sharp break. His change-up was at 68-70 mph.
