The Hotlist: 2017 State Players Of The Year

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

On Monday, Prep Baseball Report announced the state players of the year in its comprehensive coverage area. Here is a detailed look at each of the winners.

Andrew Abbott LHP / Halifax County, VA / 2017

Abbott led Halifax County to the state final, tossing a two-hit shutout in the semifinal game. He finished the season with 158 strikeouts and a 0.28 ERA in 76.2 innings while also hitting .447 with 25 runs, six doubles, three triples and a home run. Abbott has a lanky frame with long arms and throws from a 3/4 slot with regular effort. His fastball sat in the 85-88 mph range this spring, touching 89. He has advanced command for his age and late action on his breaking ball that creates plenty of swings and misses. He is committed to Virginia.

Jordon Adell OF / RHP / Ballard, KY / 2017

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Adell has a rare mix of speed and power that made him a top 10 pick in this year's MLB draft. He glides in the outfield with 6.4 60 speed, and his offensive numbers this spring were video game like. Adell hit .563 with nine doubles, 25 home runs, and 61 RBIs in 35 games. What made those numbers even more impressive is he was largely pitched around, drawing 35 walks, many of which were the intentional variety. Adell has signed his contract with the Angels and will begin his summer in rookie ball.
