Uncommitted Spotlight: Langston Williams

Diego Solares
Staff Writer

Today we’ll shine some light on Francis Howell Central’s uncommitted senior 1B Langston Williams, the 119th overall prospect in the state’s 2021 class.

Williams' stature in the box is noteworthy, as he brings a physical presence to the plate with a sturdy 6-foot-2, 220-pound frame. He attended our MOKAN Top Prospect Games this June and showed well in front of our staff. This is what our State Director, Kevin Moulder, wrote about him in the post-event analysis:

“6-foot-2, 230-pound physical frame. In the box, Williams clocked an exit velocity of 87 mph. Starts in a wide stance with a small load, then uses a short stride just before his swing. Has simple swing plane, above average bat speed and high finish. Was able to create some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. Fluid in the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 77 mph; has a clean exchange, sure hands and fluid feet. Solid in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 76 mph; showed sure hands, a lengthy exchange and developing feet. Decent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action with an-over-the-top slot. Recorded a 60 time of 7.83 at the event.”

At the event he ran a 7.70 second 60, 4.95 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 81 mph. During batting practice, Williams starts in a wide but athletic base, rhythm with hands, toe tap into a simple load, very quick hands, minimal head movement, showed hard contact to left field. In the infield, Williams moves well for his size, clean transfers, long arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velocity of 75 mph, mostly accurate throws.
